Bypass CANBUS to trigger reverse camera mode - All cars - Android Head units

Hi guys,

I just bought a Junsun V1 Pro Android head unit from Aliexpress and of course it has some issues. The unit came with a CAMBUS decoder for my car but it seems it does not detect the reverse mode, meaning the back-up camera / reverse camera cannot be activated. In this video I will show you how I managed to bypass the canbus and trigger the reverse camera mode.

This has just saved me hours. In my case my Android 13 head-unit booted straight to reverse camera function on switching on the ignition of my 2013 Corsa VXR. I Removed the orange wire from the can bus box and it worked! Thank you

Hi Adrian, thanks for this post. I had te same problem with my Davilion Head Unit in our 2012 Mazda CX-5 and altough not original configured for Canbus connection, I ordered a set on E-bay with the cableset and de Canbus convertor. Almost everything, also the central knob works on the screen. The reverse camera wasn't working and with your trick, I got the reverse camera working.
Problem was after leaving the reverse gear, that the screen went black and the Android Auto screen didn't came back for a couple of minutes. Then I remembered that I've added a "noise" filter to the rearview camera power wire.
The camera trigger-signal dropped to about 5 volts and then slowly dropped further (probably caused by a capacitor in the filter). At some time after leaving reverse gear, the Android screen came back. So I added a 1Watt 180 Ohm resistor on the camera signal line (to ground) and the Android Auto screen comes back within half a second.

Thank you very much! I had the same issue with my 2015 Kia Sportage today and your video helped me. The brown cable coming out the canbus adapter was dead so i used another wire which has the reverse signal.

Very helpful video, I was able to use the info you shared to install a similar unit on a Hyundai Santa Fe, the video was the last part that wasn't working, and now it's all fixed 😁🙏

Great idea. As it is difficult to find any information on the CAN BUS unit, I question if the reverse signal coming from the CAN BUS box has adequate current output to power the camera and input to the head unit.
I'm going to use the CAN BUS box to trigger the head unit and the tail light circuit to power the camera.

I have a corsa 2016, and camera constanly saying no video imput? Do you know why this is? Also keeps flashing up heating picture on the android stereo, which is annoying, but cant stop it. Any ideas please?

Thank you for your video! Even though I didn't buy the same unit as yours, I was having the same problem and I was able to get it working using your approach. On my unit the reverse cable was pink.

Hello, I have a Chinese screen for a Mercedes CLA and my problem is that when I'm in the android menu the rear camera it's doesn't work buy if Im in the NTG menú (original menu) of the radio the rear camera works perfectly. In resume it's doesn't switch in automatic between OEM menu and Android menu. Can I solve the problem with the solution of this tutorial? Thanks

Hi. Does this work for the reverse sound? I’ve added a camera a while back as when I installed a 3rd party stereo the beeps stopped working. I can’t find any tutorials on this 😢. Any help would be appreciated 🙏. It’s a Berlingo.

hi, it looks like you have 2 wires connected to the red wire coming from the reverse light (under the black electrical tape). Are they 2 different wires? If so, one takes 12v into the head unit to trigger the headunit. What does the other one do/go from or to?
