Torque depends on mass also so decrease the weight if you don't feel less.

Physics Behind it:

If you apply a force at a body that is not free to move but pivoted. And the force is applied at a suitable point, then the body rotates around the pivoted point.


Torque is basically the product of perpendicular distance of force applied from pivoted point and the magnitude of force.

So he is keeping the force same but reducing perpendicular distance fron the pivot(joint)
