We had not had a dog in 6 years and did not think we would get another one. We always had poodles (miniature and standard size) and loved them. Not really looking for a pet we saw a shih poo puppy for sale and fell in love with her right away. She is now 2 years old and has been the best gift we gave ourselves. I always do the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test when selecting puppies. I found out about the test when I worked at a library and it has helped us and our family to find good matches for what is desired temperament wise.

I have a shih poo, and he is very scared of just about everything. He is getting better. I show him ( Rex ) lots of love. And when he gets scared I hold him and pet him and talk to him softly. He had never even been out side till we got out baby boy. He needs lot's of love and we will continue to give him lot's of love.

I have one and she's so lovable and very smart. She loves people and other dogs, and even cats!! She does require a lot of attention. She is mostly white with black ears and black mask. She is 2yrs old and 8lbs. She's my best friend. She and my 4 yr old great grandson are best buds.

We have one #ziggytheshihpoo HE IS TRULY THE BEST ADDED HEARTBEAT AND SOUL TO OUR FAMILY.
He’s now 10years old and overweight (22lbs) but he still acts like he’s 5 and plays with full energy.
The unfortunate issues we’ve had is with his lower back and hip bones. He developed disc disease and arthritis in his hips at an early age.
So it meant less walking and other activities he enjoys. This is why his weight has gone up a bit. But he’s still super strong and playful. He has a bad day in pain at least once every two months. It kills us seeing him sad and in pain from his back and hip problems. Vets have given us some good pain meds he takes when needed.
They have a longer torso in my opinion. So I STRONGLY recommend TO NEVER pick up your shihtzu or shihpoo from under the front arm pits. Resist the temptation!
Pick them up from under their chest/belly area (like holding a football with one arm) and keep their back level until you position them how you want. This way their lower backs don’t suffer a huge separation from the normal spine disc compression they have while they walk.
Keep their ears
They can easily get infections like yeast if ignored.
Clean clean clean!!!!
Also, they don’t shed. Maybe 3-5 hairs every 6 months lol.
But brush them! Their coats will get tangled and nasty in a heart beat!

They’re super smart! They learn quick! They will be your most loyal companion ever!
Ziggy does NOT CUDDLE! Well, maybe for 1-2mins and that’s it! He prefers to be next to you but no excessive lovey dovey Shyza lol
My friends shihpoo loves to cuddle with them but I guess it’s a 50/50 trait in them.
And PLEASE don’t get a cheap/normal bracket type collar for yours!
It’ll choke em.
Spend the extra $20 and get a nice body collar for yours where it’s away from their throat.
Good luck with your Shih poo if you just got one or plan on getting one. :)

Mine is a super stubborn hyper alpha male and makes training extremely difficult but he is the cutest thing ever and when he’s not terrorizing me he’s showering me in love and kisses or demanding to play with me so I love him to pieces despite the difficult personality. ❤

My Schnoodle companion of 16+ years died of congestive heart failure last October (2024). I felt like my heart had been ripped out. Eight days later my neighbor's mother brought me a 14-month-old shipo/Sheepoo (?) as she was trying to find a good home for her. I didn't feel ready, but I had asked God that morning to let me know if I should ever have another little girl. It has been a challenge to grieve for one love and embrace another little love, but she has stolen my heart and really has helped me through my grief. She was 8.3 lbs. when I was gifted her, but the groomer thinks she is now 10 lbs (despite being a picky eater!). I have had her spayed (unfortunately, she had a litter of puppies before I got her), her teeth cleaned, and all her shots and tests. She is a happy little girl. She minds well, doesn't run away, doesn't bark. She is funny and runs and hops when we go for walks. The neighbors love her and would adopt her in a minute. I am so thankful that God blessed me.

you forgot to mention that they usually either breed the miniature poodle or a toy size poodle to a shih Tzu
