My Shih Tzu passed away just 2 days ago at only 3 years of age. We are shattered and heartbroken. Now I am looking at videos of other dogs that look like her. I miss her so much. I have never felt so lonely and sad. There is nobody to greet us at the door. Nobody to wag her tail and take naps with us. I don't know if I could ever get another dog again. She had kidney failure and possibly cancer. We spent over 8k to save her but there was no hope and we had to put her to sleep. I would have spent all my money to save my baby. My greatest inheritance from my late mother is Josie, a Shih-Tzu/Bichon Frisee cross. I was handyman/ caretaker living with my mom when she got Josie at 10 weeks. She will be 3, on April 28 3923. So we have been together all her life.
Her sleep patterns have steadily evolved since we moved back to my apartment, Jan 1, 2022. She now frequently sleeps next to or under the bed at bedtime. But when I wake in the morning she is ALWAYS beside me or in her pink "princess" bed which I keep on my bed.
I already knew I was allergic to hair/fur, pollen, mold, dust. But I have years ago become desensitized to fig or cat hair
Outside of Josie, and a cat, decades ago, I have always slept alone. So no problemo there.
I do hear Josie sometimes barking in her sleep. It is more of a yip ... yip, not loud enough to wake me if I am asleep.
She sometimes wakes me to ask to go out for a potty or poop break. Kinda annoying between 4 and 6 am, but at least she is finally house broken. (Seen many Shih-Tzu videos, they all agree that Shih-Tzu are stubborn and hard to house break)
All in all, it is pure joy to wake in the morning and find my "darling doggie" Josie in bed with me.

I have had my AKC Shih Tzu, Teddy, since he was a puppy and he is now 16 1/2! He is my third Shih Tzu. My first, Tiffany, I had since I was 21. She had 1 litter of 4 fluff balls! We kept her daughter, Angel. Tiffany lived for over 16 years! Her daughter didn’t live more than a year after Tiffany as she died due to congestive heart failure and I believe a broken heart as she had spent her whole life with her mom!!!❤ I also had an imperial (tiny) Shih Tzu, Gia. She died at age 8 a few days after the vet gave her the annual vacillations. She had an enlarged heart. I now am afraid of vaccinations for my fur babies!!

We had two Shih-tzu. They passed away at the age of 1 at the age of 16). Or second passed away at the age of 12. They were not brothers. Or came from the same family. They had gum disease even though we brushed their teeth. Both dogs eventually had to have all their teeth removed. We believe that because of the teeth extractions that this caused further health problems, which caused their death. Our second dog, a shih-tzu, we discovered his teeth were growing inside of his gums. Which is why they had to be removed. He died in our arms. It was a terrible loss to us. Losing both dogs in one year was devastating.

Add don’t use a neck collar, use a harness. Their necks can be easily broken with using only a neck collar!

We got our dog in Jan a friend passed away his wife couldn’t care from him. We became 3rd owners. Well other 2 owners were male so ours took up with my husband. Mine is a climber...was remodeling the house and one day the pup climbed the ladder up into the attic with me..then climbed down again..and up.. started taking him out hiking and doing simple rock/slope climbs..he loves it. Now I have a ladder with a safety net and soft mat below so he/we can do this together each day. On long hikes he gets tired and I carry him some like a baby..very big personality in a small package..just remember...very delicate tiny puppy, even when they try to show off, you need to protect them from their adventurous nature
