If you have issues with overheating of your amp and you dont want RF interference from a cooling fan, try putting rubber spacers on your mounting screws between amp and mounting surface. It will keep the amp away from surface allowing heat to dissipate all of the way around the amp. Mounting surface could insulate the bottom of the amp holding in heat and possibly damaging amp components.

Use gain to adjust to keep your speakers from bottoming and keep subsonic off for 12s and larger. Turning that subsonic dial clockwise at all makes you lose low end output period. Subs are mostly meant to play low unless you’re using 8s or 10s. Then I could see turning it up a hair. Never had a problem in 35 years this way. Now, the low pass filter “features” the number it’s set at with more volume versus subsonic. Subsonic just cuts off below where it’s set at. But a slight roll off starts higher than where it’s set. Hope this helps. Oh, and Bass boost shouldn’t even be on amps period. Keep it off.

Being as I have recently as January gotten back in the car audio world I have so much to learn and I get really confused when it starts getting into these types of topic areas. Basically learning to have everything matched from Head Unit back to amps and all in between. Learning slowly, but learning none the less!!! Thank you for another insightful video!!!

Am kofi from Ghana, you have been very helpful with the subsonic setting, now my system sounds better than the first time 👍

The actual best setting for the subsonic/infrasonic filter is the one that limits ultra low frequency excursion to prevent damage. A side effect of this is that you are now drawing less current when playing those ultra low frequencies meaning less voltage drop and possibly more average power in your supply. This may lead to slightly higher dBSPL numbers but is unlikely to be noticed by most. I would recommend finding the frequency where the sub begins to unload and have crazy xmax and slowly turn up the volume until the sub begins to reach close to xmax but there's still power you can add. Then adjust the infrasonic/subsonic filter until the xmax drops then repeat with slightly more power until you reach max power and the sub is no longer exceeding xmax below tuning at whatever frequency was ideal to pick for your setup. If for sub for example is tuned to 35Hz and it will begin to exceed xmax at lets say 25Hz then you should probably have a filter setting around 25hz or so to cut off that low bass a bit so it doesn't damage your sub. It will also put less power into the coil at low frequencies so maybe you can get a touch more power in the higher frequencies that the sub can play leading to more dB.

At about a half an octave below enclosure tuning, subwoofer output will begin to diminish. At just below tuning, the driver will begin to "unload", and excursion will increase. I personally recommend setting subsonic about one quarter of an octave to one half an octave below enclosure tuning. This will vary, depending on the slope of the subsonic filter being used. I am using a DSP which affords different slopes, or dB per octave. The steeper the slope, the lower you can set it without damaging your driver. Always remember that the lower in frequency you play, the driver will want to naturally move farther anyway. When making your adjustments, start out high, then work your way down, observing excursion and listening for mechanical distress. Cheers dude!

Can’t believe how good the bass sounds through your mic and out into my super cheap earbuds(Tozo T10). Sounds so clean.

i never thought subsonic would affect the high frequencies like that. learning every day.

It is a sweep you need to play music and adjust the subsonic because if the sub is moving to much in relation the enclosure it would disrupt the air in the port reducing higher tone output. Some people dont know that it is the air in the port that vibrates and make sound. Especially if the sound have low and high tone.

Thanks for the video. Love how you are using the sound deadening for your vehicle. Better carpet is also a way to get sound deadening in your car from the cheap OEM stuff in most cars. You can also add padding under the carpet, just make sure to get the stuff that is "fireproof"! Though it can be a bit pricey works great.

At the end of the day we want to be louder but what i got from this is that its mostlikely best to set the subsonic before i set the gain because changing the subsonic later would change the output voltage.

Dude your content is really good. Well spoken, good flow, informative. You should have more subscribers. That's not an indictment on you, rather us in the community. We need to share you more. You should be getting paid for this. I'll do my part 👍

Subsonic is useful on ported boxes, sealed do not need a subsonic filter.

I have 8's box is tuned to 30hz my subsonic is all the way down. I think it sounds perfect to me. But not looking for high numbers anymore. Just nice clean sound

A lot of great info there! You got just about everything right. The subsonic filter comes into play ONLY if the amp receives frequencies that are below the lowest tone the sub can produce at 3db down. AND, the filter only comes into play IF there ARE frequencies present in the infrasonic range. Using a good signal generator should not produce any frequency other than what it is set to. If harmonics are being generated in the signal chain, then you have a problem. Another thing, what is the slope attenuation of that HPF (subsonic filter)? I bet it's no higher than 6db/oct. So, as you set the level up near your fundamental tone, it may be already sucking the level down! You want to be anal about this? Get an "O" scope and look at the waveform levels while you play with the filter. A subsonic filter shows it's colors when playing a warped LP on a home stereo. The subsonic cone movement in the woofer can be crazy bad!
