Anchor & Meteorologist's EMOTIONAL On-Air Goodbye After Layoffs

Two Midwestern TV personalities recently made a sad on-air announcement. WHTI News10's anchor Patrece Dayton and chief meteorologist Kevin Orpurt told their viewers in Terre Haute, Ind., that the broadcast would be their final one, going on to share that they were laid off. “For those of you who don't know, both of our positions are being eliminated here at WTHI-TV. The television news business in general is changing nationwide, and budget cuts are happening everywhere,” Patrece shared. “After four decades of dedication to WHTI and to the Wabash Valley, we had both hoped to go out on our own terms to celebrate, but that's not the case,” Kevin added.

That’s sad. I expect this to only be the beginning of drastic media cuts.

I have watched these two wonderful people since they started at WTHI. It’s horrible how the new parent company treated them and forced them out before they were ready to retire. It is a move the entire viewing area dislikes.

Patrece ended her final broadcast of each day with “Good night. Sleep well.” It’s weird not hearing her say that anymore.

Kevin is well known in the area for his bow ties. He wore regular ties on air when the weather wasn’t great, but always sported a bow tie when the weather forecast was good.

We miss you already, Kevin and Patrece! Thank you for serving us so well!

They handled it so professional. I remember back in 1987 way back in the day it become obvious the chief meteorologist was training his replacement lost it on air and said I know how this is going down and what's happening I am not stupid here take it and he walked out live on air and left the market all together. To this day he is still on the air in Nebraska and is a wonderful man he did not deserve what happened in St. Louis.

I would like to say the two of them were very informative and they delivered news and weather that was important to its viewers.
Thank you Patrece and Kevin.
I'd also like to add the simple fact that no one in Terre Haute or in a 100 mile radius really wants to hear about Fort Wayne and it's road closings or the weather there.

You are in TERRE

What kind of sadistic narcissist would layoff employees who’ve been there for 37 and 40 years. That person has the power to move them around or do whatever it takes so that they can have the reward that they deserve for giving that much of their lives as employees. However honor is nowhere to be found in this dystopian society we live in nowadays. To the era of honor, of class, of character, of ladies and of gentlemen good night and sleep well. Sleep well indeed.

Corporate news has taken over. Too bad. Good luck to these two, the thousands of others, and quite frankly to us.

The worst part is they both got their cars towed on the final day (a mistake was made where their parking credentials expired a day earlier than it should have). Tragic 😢

We will miss them here in Indiana....they are honest journalists unlike the National Weather channel and CBS national broadcasters.

That is wrong for them to lose their job. The government has to stop this. For people losing their jobs that's not right.

The irony is that the voice you hear narrating is most likely an AI voice (if you listen, it seems artificial).
