I told my husband at the start of the year that regardless of who won, there could be trouble and we need to be prepared for the possibility of enough unrest that I may not be able to go anywhere for supplies. He agreed but left all the preps up to me. He travels 5 days a week from home and is home only 2 days a week. After this event he got a gun out of the safe and asked me to keep it bedside to protect me and our son while he is away. This really freaked him out!

I travel for a living. And I brought up Saturday’s events to all of my accounts. What blew my mind, is the consistent response of: “Well, even if he was taken out, I just don’t think anything too serious would have happened around here”. That is when it was brought home for me. The willful ignorance. The naivety of people. We were inches away from all of us waking up to a VERY different world and those same people would have been a deer caught in the headlights in it. I for one will continue to train, go to the range, prepare and try to get as many people around me to see the light too.

The sad thing is that many people were expecting something like this to happen. A lot of crazy stuff going on right now, but that's the best reason to make sure you keep a level head and be ready.

I had a friend post something very politically one sided recently. I commented that, in my opinion, the polarization of us as a people into simply two political parties seems to me to be one of the biggest threats to our republic. I had several friends tell me I was wrong and unfriend me because our views do not align. I know where I lean, but it is still important to hear each other without compromising morals. When my feed only looks like what I think I start to worry. This division can only continue to deepen so far until we are torn apart beyond repair.

I had my mom here for a few days after she had a procedure and a frank discussion with her about our previous plan and what I am now prepping to do. She really listened. My next commitment is to increase my water storage. Thank you as always for your direct approach.

Check your soil texture with the old Mason jar test. Using a straight walled clear jar with a lid add:
• 1/3 jar well sifted soil
• water to within 1" of top
• 1 tsp soap/detergent

Shake well and allow to settle >24 hours.
Sand will settle on the bottom
Silt above sand
Clay above silt

Ideal ratio will depend on what you're planting but a good loam will be 2:2:1 (sand:silt:clay). Make texture ammendments from there.

Next evaluate the chemistry and ammend pH, fertilizers, etc.

This is what convinced my child's father/ex-husband to give me some money to get prepping with. (I've done a lot on my own already but he makes six figures, and I can do more than a 90-day prep with it.) Before this he was kindly listening to me and being supportive, but he didn't believe-believe me. He pretty much did an about-face.
