My father was on the USS New Jersey on this historic day and had an 8x10" photo of the event in his scrapbook. Several decades later he completed a scratch-built model of the BB-62 and another 20-odd years later his model was accepted into the Battleship New Jersey museum in Sept-2014, 15 months before my father passed away. We're very proud of his legacy as a Battleship sailor.

I recently did a catering on the USS Iowa for a sailor's 100th birthday. He served on that ship through multiple wars! Amazing.

For a brief moment, the most powerful battlegroup to ever grace the seas was underway.

In 1984, while I was stationed aboard the USS Eisenhower, the New Jersey came along the Ike, for a underway replenishment!
It was a beautiful thing, seeing her underway, that close!

Give me chills thinking about being there to see that sight. What a display of power.

I worked in the late 1980's on the USS Wisconsin restoration and reactivation. The drydock work was done at the New Orleans Avondale shipyard on account of Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula Ms. not having a big enough drydock. I was employed at Ingalls Shipbuilding for nearly 40 years and worked on many historical projects including putting the US Cole back into service. The Wisconsin was the high light of my 40 years in the industry.

Im a shipfitter, and it was a honor to do some steel work on the Wisconsin. We was tasked to weld 10ft plates across the exspansion joints because of water flooding the lower compartments. The history and orginal crew lockers and equipment, and personal letters and journals are awsome. These are some awsome and powerful ships. Them 16 in gun turrets are massive. Those veteran sailors keep that ship looking good. Its at nauticus in norfolk virginia.

What an awesome display of fire power and fear . It is a real shame that these mighty ships are not around these days . From Australia I am glad that the New Jersey Muesum channel is keeping these ships and others like them in our Hearts and memories . " Thank you for Your Service " .

There is enough firepower in this 5 second clip to change the topography of nations.

I have a picture of this event hanging in my work area. although I was an Army field Artilleryman for 23+ years, the Battleships always captured my attention.

The fact that all Iowa ship museums are located and spread out in the US, if you count all 7 US battleships museums, they too are spread out in terms of location. I only managed to visit 3 out of 7 Battleships museums in the US. Massachusetts, New Jersey and North Carolina.
