Hey, it's Mayim, and I know a lot of people have a lot of opinions about homeschooling. Some think it's elitist, or it turns kids into anti-social freaks, or they won't get into college. I'm here to dispel those homeschooling myths! Share your thoughts below—do you still have questions?

Okay, so let me get this straight. This lady is a neurobiologist (which is a rare profession, especially for women) with a PhD; she's a super successful actress who's well-known around the world and who build her wealth thanks to one of the funniest characters on the TV; a proud representative of the Jewish community who knows a lot about politics and has her own very strong opinions; an amazing mother of two who... HAS THE TIME to homeschool her kids?... Mayim, I don't know if you actually realize how great you are. You're my role model. I'm sure you're not just my role model. All the best wishes to you, your kids and your family!

I’d like to mention, that I’ve been to public school, and there were SO MANY teens who were very unsocialized. School doesn’t always mean you will have amazing social skills.

I began homeschooling my kid in 7th grade when middle school started breaking her spirit. She's graduating this year and has been named a Presidential Scholar at a top 60 college and gained admission and scholarships to some other amazing universities. I have zero doubt that the success she has found is not in spite of homeschooling, but because of it. My kid spent her middle and high school years focusing on her passions. When some kids were reading Shakespeare in English class, she was writing and staging her own play at our local community theater. It's been an overall amazing experience for our family. I remember being SO intimidated worrying that homeschooling might irrevocably hurt my kid, because I myself don't have a degree in education and we didn't have a big homeschooling budget. But, that fear was completely unfounded. I am SO glad I took the plunge.

I’m a 17 year old female who has attended public school all my life and I can honestly say that all homeschoolers I have met and become friends with, are usually the best and well adjusted people I know. 💚💚💚

As a formerly homeschooled kid (K-12) - i loved this! I’ve heard ALL of those misconceptions and more. Sure i was always a bit quirky, but what kid isn’t? And i love that learned to embrace it. Graduated from high school at 16, got my bachelors at 20. Chose a career of full time music that started at age 17 and 10 years later I’m still living my dream life, now married with a baby on the way. We can turn out “normal.” Promise. 😂🙌🏽

I was home schooled and alot of my parents friends didn't agree with them taking us out of school, this is my favourite interaction.
"But school has socialisation aren't your girls missing something?",
My dad - "Yes... BULLYING" .
Me and my younger sisters were all pulled out when i was 9 as we all were bullied (for a variety of different reasons, basically we couldn't win, we were too smart, too dumb, too spoilt, too poor, too weird or too boring).
My youngest did go back in 3 years later but it was her choice and i didn't return until college at 16.
I was 3rd highest in my year when i left, i have a degree and masters and i now teach.

Homeschooling Mom here. I feel that people look at my child as if he’s not getting a “real” education. I think the opposite. I feel he is learning more than I ever did with a standard education, and I have a Masters degree. Proud to be a homeschooling Mom!

I went to public school, private school and then homeschooled. Homeschooling was my favorite because if I wanted to learn more about a subject, I could. I was able to be way more involved in my community. My father and I volunteered at nursery homes and community center for seniors.

having mother like you, who understands the science behind child's behaviour is a great approach of home schooling.

Hi, I'm 21yr old and I was homeschooled. Next year will be my senior year of college then I'm moving on to get a master's degree. I've kept up excellent grades and I'm proud of that. Oh, and I'm double majoring in Secondary Education English and language arts. I chose this because I believe my experience with homeschooling can bring a new perspective to education which is definitely needed. I was sick as a child and I couldn't go to traditional school. My doctor advised my mother against it and I'm glad. I'll admit, homeschooling isn't for everyone, but it was perfect for me. I just want people to understand that some homeschool kids don't have a choice. If they didn't homeschool they wouldn't get an education at all. Please, don't make homeschool kids feel like their education is inferior to yours or like their education doesn't count. They've worked hard for their education and that's amazing. I'm not saying homeschooling is the best way to educate your children, I'm asking that you respect it as being on equal ground with other education systems.

I relate to this so much 🙌🏼 I was homeschooled grade 1-12 and people would be like “how do you make friends?” But I was going to all kinds of classes and activities every week and I made friends with other homeschoolers at homeschool events. I’m now going to college and then going to go to university to become an astrophysicist! 🙌🏼❤️ Yay homeschoolers!

I was a home schooling kid, and I can tell u right off the bat, it was the best thing. We got to travel and explore and learn outside of the class room. And college? It was easier for me than some of my peers simply because I was used to planning ahead and managing my school work with things i wanted to accomplish. I will always thank my mom for home schooling me, and i will Definetly homeschool my kids.

Have Homeschooled my kiddos forever! They've never been to a public school. It has been the best! I'm so glad we did it.

Started our homeschool journey in September and it's been the best year of our lives (minus covid). My daughter is so much calmer and my son is loving it!

I homeschooled my daughter K-8 and then sent her to regular high school she got a 30 on her ACTS and was the AP scholar of the state of Kentucky the year she graduated. She had neighborhood friends to play with and we keep her into sports and other stuff to keep her socialized. She is now a nurse and doing very well for herself.
