First, Why do we care about 5G?

What’s good about Verizon’s 5G
In ALL 5G speeds tests, Verizon comes out on top beating out both AT&T and T-Mobile. There are some mobile speeds tests that show Verizon 5G reaching speeds FASTER than 1GigaBit which is the fastest mobile data has ever been…
Actual 5G speeds will vary depending on where you are but you can expect fast fast fast speeds. Opensignal who tests carrier speeds, found their average 5G speed was nearly 500 Mbps. Now I can’t really say we NEED mobile speeds that fast…. But hey, if it’s available i want it.

What Verizon Says about their 5G
Right now verizon says their 5G is available in PARTS of 35 cities and is constantly expanding. As impressive as this sounds… “parts of 35 cities” leaves a lot for me to wonder about. Like where in these cities is 5G available… and how many square miles does 5G cover?? Luckily I have a tech-guy-extraordinaire-smarty-pants-Mike on my team to really zero in on 5G coverage and I can tell you EXACTLY where and how much 5G coverage Verizon has.

How much 5G coverage does Verizon have??
Through our research we found that Verizon has .0014% 5G coverage in the United States. To put that into perspective that’s about 53 square miles. Let’s look at other things that are 53-square miles: Buffalo City, New York, San Francisco, CA, Anaheim, CA, minneapolis MN, and a little more than the whole of Disney World. Here’s the thing though… Verizon’s 5G rollout is a little slower than its competitors… BUT it’s so much faster. Where T-Mobile is going for #1 on coverage with slower speeds, Verizon is building a totally separate 5G network and that takes time. But once they figure out how to quickly roll out that network, we’ll see them become a MAJOR 5G player in no time.
okay so its speeds are amazing and with a cameo from none other than Mona-Lisa Saperstein herself even i’m convinced on 5G.

But Where is Verizon’s 5G?
Alright so now that we know how much Verizon 5G is out there… where can you actually get it?? Well there’s a few states that have it right now including south dakota, arizona, Utah, Tennessee, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts… that’s just a few of the 35 states where you can find 5G. But the catch is none of these states have more than .11% coverage and the state with the most coverage is Rhode Island with .11%
The city with the most coverage is Boston, Massachusetts with 5% coverage. Since it’s the city with the MOST 5G coverage, let’s take a look at what it looks like on a map.
On Verizon’s website you can look at a list of cities where 5G is available and then Verizon breaks down the specific neighborhoods of that city. So in boston there is coverage in parts of downtown. Anything in dark red is where 5G is available. It’s mostly on streets and sidewalks because Verizon’s 5G band doesn’t penetrate buildings which is a huge hurdle they’re working on so for now 5G is a street resource.

Conclusion: 5G is fast, I’m a parks and recreation fan, And verizon 5G isn’t widely available… in fact i’d go as far to say it’s barely available, And it’s definitely hands down the fastest, but does that REALLY matter if you can’t use it??? Let me know know what you think. ALSO I have a T-Mobile 5G coverage video coming out on FRIDAY. So be sure to turn on the notifications and subscribe so you don’t miss it.

Verizon’s UWB 5G is a joke. Millimeter wave spectrum does achieve gigabit speeds but doesn’t propagate well at all. It barely will travel a few city blocks. And for a person to see those gigabit speeds you literally will have to be right under the tower to see those kinds of speeds. Problem with MMWV is it can’t penetrate glass, windows, basements, attics, buildings, even a leaf will get in the way and disrupt the signal. T-Mobile & AT&T called Verizon on their BS 5G model and only then did they change their model for 5G claiming they would then use low band spectrum, mid band spectrum (none of which Verizon has on a nationwide scale), and millimeter wave spectrum. The only carrier who is positioned to achieve a true 5G network is T-Mobile. They have more low band spectrum holdings than both AT&T & Verizon in the 600MHZ spectrum using it on band 71 for LTE and 5G NR for stand-alone low band 5G, 2.5 GHZ mid band also being used for 5G NR and eventually stand alone when deployed and millimeter wave also for 5G NR. People claim they are using fake 5G when they’ve literally only deployed 1 out of 3 phases of their 5G network. AT&T is following the same model as T-Mobile but they don’t have nowhere near enough mid band spectrum and will probably bidding in the CBRS mid band spectrum auction like Verizon case that’s what will be how carriers obtain true meaningful 5G with the balance of speed and range. MMWV is not going to be useful to the average everyday consumer unless your outside by the tower everyday which most people aren’t going to be.

Not here in South Florida where I find it's still the same as 4G with a 5G phone And by map the closest and only 5G tower is maybe 30 miles away 😕 not good..

Georgia only has Atlanta. I haven't played with it yet because I just drive through Atlanta.

Just a note both iPhone 12 pro models are / will be 5g compatible.

How did you find out that San Francisco California has 5G coverage from Verizon when San Francisco is not list it on the website as a city that has 5G?

Why not mention the future 5g roll out....been hearing Verizon went all in with spectrum auction which is the spectrum they’ll be using for 5g. Along with their fast pace roll out in 5 g nodes. seems like something big is up the sleeve of a company that has a lot cash to use now to roll out 5g where other carriers are cash strapped and aren’t able to invest heavily as Verizon appear to be doing this year. They did the same when 4g was becoming a thing.... and we all know now who was better at rolling out 4g. I’d stick to company that has a track record and money to make it happen.

It’s not clear what’s intended use cases for 5g mmwave, I could see it for use in crowded stadiums or airports, city downtown “main streets” but you can achieve 1gb speed with new WiFi 6 which is cheaper than 5g. My take is it’s going to complement 5g mid-band and low-band frequencies that are slower but have wider coverage.

I signed on for T mobile 5g it was impressive on ookla. But the sources of internet data that can move their data at the same speed is like nill.
The people at Tmobile promised me I could get email. ANd then it wasn't so. Yet they reps over and over told me that I could get a @Tmobile email address.
Turns out Tmobile doesn't do email at all for any one. Yet half a dozen reps lied to me promising that If this or if that then I'd get it.
HAd they just told me from the start.
So I booted 'em.
And Verizon still won't say when they will be in my area.
I tell ya it's enough to make me use a string and a tin can

Still can’t get LTE everywhere so why all the hype about 5G. I live outside of the city limits so 5G will be a long away, say YEARS people. I’m sure I will love it when is more available.

Going to take some time, for now just save for a 5g ready smart phone

Yo Babe. I've tried it. I got T mobile's 5G it was humming along at about 450 mbps ( Before I sent it back because all they did was lie to me). BUT the websites one is logged onto don't run at those speeds. So your download/upload will take the same damn amount of time as it always did.

I haven't gotten a 5G phone because I live in rural North Carolina & I have Verizon. Heck Verizon doesn't even have good coverage in Rural NC off of the main Roads.

Such cruel deception in commercials! Coverage map vs performance.
You say T-Mobile 5G is different than Verizon? Has to be the processing of data on the backend i guess.
If everyone went to Maine - do a Commercial there 😂

Good truthful info on the 5g hype. Will it become the normal for speed. Time will tell. Not worth buying a 5g phone when you can't use the 5g capabilities. Almost a slap in the face to customers but if they buy it they will make it.

I'm on At&t and I only get 4G LTE but my speeds are usually 700-950mbps.
