I’ll quickly go over 5G incase you don’t know what it is… you can learn more about it in these videos up this corner here.
Basically 5G is the next evolution in mobile internet. Just like LTE, 4G, 3G and 2G before it, each generation is faster and faster which allows us to do more with our mobile phones! Woo! Most 5G signals are higher frequency than other signals which helps your data move more quickly through the inter-web. Some people are worried about 5G signals being dangerous… but i debunk that theory and go over why they AREN'T in my 5G conspiracy theory vid up here.

What is T-Mobile 5G
So you have a basic understanding of what 5G is… how does T-Mobile’s 5G fit into the picture?? Where other carriers 5G signals are super high-frequency, T-Mobile’s 5G 600MHz band is lower frequency which means it’s faster than 4G LTE but not as fast as Verizon or AT&T’s 5G signal. So if it’s not as fast what’s the point??? The POINT is that it can travel much further. Now all my techy people out there, yes i’m dumbing this down a smidge. But you get the basic gist.
The way T-Mobile is setting up their 5G is also why its 5g coverage is so much larger than Verizon or AT&T. T-Mobile isn’t building a whole new network like Verizon and AT&T.. they’re building off of their current network attaching the 600MHz 5G signal to CURRENT 4G LTE towers. This lets tmobile quickly and efficiently create a stronger faster signal than they’ve ever had before, and allows them to be the front runner in the 5G coverage race.
Now i’ll briefly mention that T-Mobile has inherited Sprint’s 5G mid-range band, but they’re aren’t focusing on that right now, and instead putting most, if not all, of their effort into their low-band 5G.

5G Coverage and Speed
So how much 5G does T-Mobile actually have??? This is pretty exciting while mutually not super exciting… here’s why. T-Mobile has the MOST 5G coverage in the country covering 30% of the United States with their low-band 600MHz. The only caveat here is that T-Mobile’s 5G is not as fast at as the others… for instance l who tested all the carriers 5G found the average T-Mobile 5G speed was about 50Mbps while verizon's average speed was 500 Mpbs... so FOR NOW they are winning because more people can access it, however even as soon as next year T-Mobiles 5G network *COULD pale in comparison once the Verizon and AT&T 5G networks get up and running on a wider scale.
BTW I just published a video on Verizon’s coverage here (point) and AT&T’s is coming next. So subscribe and turn on the notifications so you don’t miss that!

Which States have most coverage
The top states for T-Mobile 5G coverage are:
1. New Jersey 74%
2. Minnesota 63.6%
3. Oklahoma 63.3%
4. Indiana 61.9%
5. Louisiana 59.4%
The top 5 WORST states for T-Mobile 5G coverage are:
1. Alaska 0%
2. Nebraska 4.8%
3. New Hampshire 15%
4. Vermont 16.5%
5. Delaware 16.8%
Top 10 Cities with 100% coverage:
1. MILWAUKEE WI
2. BELOIT WI
3. MADISON WI
4. SINSINAWA WI
5. GREEN BAY WI
6. STEVENS POINT WI
7. OSHKOSH WI
8. APPLETON WI
9. IOLA WI
10. BUTTE DES MORTS WI

These are the most populated cities, but in total there are 3,888 cities that have full 5G coverage for T-Mobile. That’s a total of 9,156 zip codes with full coverage and nearly 30K zip codes with partial coverage.

But really 5G right now is pretty useless. well it might as well be a chia pet. It’s there… but we’re not really going to be able to see the difference it makes for a WHILE. We need more coverage, and we need more phones that can access it (that don’t cost an arm and a leg).
But if you’re with t-mobile, have a capable phone, and live in one of the top covered states… go for it! For the majority of us though… 5G is still just a fun idea.

In Maryland, suburb of DC. Got 5g signal of T-mobile, but speed is slower than LTE. 5-20Mb/s depending on where in my house/outside. Called support, went thru network reset, etc but still the same. YouTube stuttered at 1440p videos at 5g mode. Had to select LTE without 5g to get LTE+ mode for smooth 1440p videos. Support said engineers are still working on 5g and will give me update. Haven't tested it at "excellent" signal location shown on their coverage map. My house is in the "good" 5g signal area.

I just got my 12 pro max yesterday and i have sprint/T-Mobile and i have 5G pretty much all in my house and I had it majority of the time when i went outside. The download speeds varied between 60-200 mbps so that’s definitely faster than sprint ever was. It’s also quite confusing cause I’m not sure if I’m always connected to a T-Mobile tower or if my phone connects to it when I don’t have sprint coverage. On the speed test I use it says T-Mobile for the server and sprint for the service so I’m not sure cause my phone has a sprint SIM card but connection is definitely better!

I spend most of my time (like 98%) surfing, watching videos, conference calls on a PC with giga speed internet. I may be in the minority, but I dont think 5G is going to change my life in any significant way. Maybe in the future, streaming high res music on my phone, will be something I look forward to.
Great video!

The networks can't even get LTE in lots of places so what's the point?

I have a Sprint (Tmobile) Galaxy Note 20 Ultra in the Sacramento, CA area. 5G is everwhere here. Download speed on my front deck is 130mbps and upload is 66mbps. Upload is faster than my Gigabit wifi through Xfinity.

Glad I found your video. Recently upgraded to a 5G phone. I thought 50mbs was slow but guess it's normal for T-Mobile. Luckily 5G doesn't cost extra.

1: AT&T 5G uses 850 MHz & 24, 28 & 39 GHz. Mainly 850 so their 5G coverage is actually decent, but att has been rolling out coverage slower than T-Mobile in that regard.

2: “Ultra Wideband” Really. That doesn’t mean anything other than mmwave, Verizon uses bands in the 24, 28 and 39 GHz range for their mmwave, and will be using 850 MHz & 3.5 GHz for their Sub 6 soon.

3: Very little mention of NR 41/2.5 GHz in this video, T-Mobile has been rapidly deploying this in many areas and it’s one of the biggest parts of T-Mobile’s 5G rn, and especially will be for the upcoming future. Fast and can be reliable with solid site density.

4: T-Mobile has trash coverage in the state of Indiana. How does T-Mobile have 61.9% of IN with 5G if their LTE all bands isn’t even that high. T-Mobile’s B71 covers roughly 20 to 30% of IN and all those towers have NR so those figures would be relatively close with the NR coverage of the state.

5: How did Nebraska even manage a 5 percent as 99% of the state T-Mobile roams on Viaero Wireless for coverage. T-Mobile’s only coverage in NE is Omaha, NE and Lincoln, NE with some Swiss cheese coverage between the cities

6: Verizon has networks deployed already for DSS N5/B5 and has been deploying sites with CBRS lately, especially popping up in NJ & MI. ATT is expanding B5/N5 and will be pushing N2 DSS, as well some more bands I’m unsure about.

The sad part about tmobile is that by getting into 5g all they did was expand their 4GLTE coverage much more to the point of catching up with AT&T and VERIZON that was all. The 2 big companies are fighting for more coverage but already got the 5G speeds going.

What is your opinion on smartphones overheating and degrading battery life (and CPU health) from prolonged 5G coverage usage?
I’m okay with T-Mobile using a slower average 5G speed of 50 Mbps if that means my phone will not overheat and will have guaranteed coverage.

My other question is: how does T-Mobile’s average 50 Mbps 5G speed compare with their current fastest average 4G LTE Mbps?

Yes, I have 5G (at least that is what the 5G symbol in my phone says)! At best I have 8MB download speed where I live. Blazingly fast (LOL) most of the time. Thanks T-Mobile/Sprint or whatever you call yourself these days. And, yes AT&T and Verison cost too much for the 5G so-called service in my neck of the woods. Happy where I am at, I think.

Deploying 5g on the 600mhz spectrum is like gaming with a RTX 2080 graphics card on a 720p monitor.
