US president Joe Biden has warned Russia's Vladimir Putin of "strong" western economic blowback against any attack on Ukraine. In a two-hour video call between the two leaders, President Biden voiced deep concerns over Russian troop buildups. President Putin said Russia will not attack Ukraine, but demanded guarantees against eastward NATO expansion.
The Kremlin is demanding legally enforced guarantees that NATO will not expand further east, setting up military operations in Ukraine. And it wants the US to promise it will not to allow Ukraine to join NATO.
The White House says it warned Russia there will be "very real cost" should it proceed with military action, and a tougher response than when Moscow annexed Crimea.
The Kremlin insists the military buildup is just to protect its border.
Neither side expected a resolution this week, but camps in Moscow and Washington agree that communication is vital in deescalating tensions between these former Cold War foes.

Imagine a scenario where Canada allies itself with Russia and allows Russian military bases on their land.

Why it's OK to have Russian army in Belarus but is not OK to have NATO soldiers in Ukraine?
Can Mr Putin explain this?

Everything goes according to Kremlins' playbook - that is, being able to intervene in Ukraine with short notice and change the political situation in Kyiv.
- First, pull together forces to make West and, in particular, Ukraine very nervous.
- Float a NATO-block proposal at the OSCE meeting In Stockholm, before the Biden call, with the understanding that this will not be accepted by the West.
- Kremlin does not care about the economic sanctions since they will not treat or invade at this stage.
- Now, their forces will become stationary. Thus a new "normal" at the border is established -- objective one achieved.
- The situation at Ukraine's eastern border will keep Kyiv forces on high alert for a very long time, thus the pressure for a political change with a president in Kiev that is more willing to discuss a solution that satisfies Moscow -- objective two achieved.
- If something goes in the wrong direction, Russian forces will react wholly and swiftly invade the eastern region to "protect their people" living there. Nobody and no sanction can stop this from happening -- now Moscow has gained some new buffer zones against the West.
A real Cold War plan.

Hitting Russia economically will not have much impact, unless you get China involved in the sanctions. Due to the hostilities against China, China will likely support Russia. Losing the pipeline will hurt the EU more than Russia, Ukraine just wants to drag the USA and EU into the conflict to regain territory lost in 2014.

Russia can't alienate USA completely. USA can't alienate Russia. So co-operation, however difficult, is the only way forward.

Here's the world you, dear viewer, live in. These guys laugh and discuss things, maybe go to war maybe do sanctions but end of the day you common man die for their wars and cause of their sanctions and they continue to live in luxury and laugh.

What the US didn’t do in 2014, it is prepared to do now? Russia today isn’t the Russia in 2014. US expects other countries to be threatened (and others supported) by completely empty rhetoric. It’s so juvenile.
