I never understood why ppl hate on other variations of any exercise. Everyone has different goals. Ppl will find something to hate no matter what. Do what’s best for you 😎 👑

As you get older, you just don't care. Do what suits you and feels good.

Sumo DL: 2-3 days to recover.
Conventional: 1 month.

People who say “sumo doesn’t count” are just mad they aren’t flexible enough to do sumo

Sumo is the only way I can keep my back straight without pain

Sumo makes me feel like I’m using more of my lower body, (for my case I love it because I play soccer). You can still get a great work out for your back, AND in my personal experience I feel a better overall mind body connection since I’m using more of my body in a more strategic way. And for a side not, I find that it feels more natural for me since I have some pretty long legs.

I'm fine with sumo, but that contortionist 3" ROM bench press arch nonsense has got to be stopped.

Personally I do better on conventional than sumo, it really depends on body type and preference I don’t think one actually is better than the other they just benefit different people in different ways

At the end of the day, you do you as long as you're progressing your fitness goals. But, if you're doing deadlift and especially when you're still new to the lift it's always better to address your form and technique, find out why your lower back hurts because you could be doing the exercise wrong. I personally did sumo because of the same lower back pain problem when I was younger, but when I went back to analyze what I did wrong on conventional I actually preferred it over sumo. TLDR address and assess your problem first before you move on.

I personally prefer conventional, but sumo doesn't mean someone doesn't know what they're doing or isn't good. If they're trying sumo, they're probably knowledgeable enough about lifts and are trying to crush a PR.

Plus, just because it's different doesn't mean it's bad. Zurcher squats are different, and I don't do them because I don't want to die while squatting, lmao, plus the room doesn't allow for it where I'm at.

I think also the debate for conventional lifts being at events they HAVE to be conventional, and then open allow for the other methods, then maybe that could be a discussion, but not everybody wants to have a discussion, they just want to put people down.

Another banger, as always

It’s literally less ROM, which makes it easier. Basic logic. Don’t really give a fuck if you pull sumo but it’s stupid to allow it in powerlifting. Strongman has the right idea, they don’t allow it.

He’s right. Do whichever position you prefer. Regardless, understanding the proper form for deadlifting is the key to success and injury prevention.

As long as you’re picking heavy shit up of the ground you’re good

I do push pull legs split and deadlift conventional on pull. I do wanna start adding in sumo deadlifts but at the same time don’t really wanna be deadlifting 4 times a week

Sumo deadlifts shorten the range of motion of the exercise. You are making the exercise easier on yourself with the sumo variation, but the sumo variation you are able to build more muscle with because you can load more weight onto the exercise.

no one smart says sumo "doesnt count" it just objectively is easier and should not be seen the same as conventional

I like this video. Currently I’m training my hook grip on sumo. I switched over to sumo recently after hitting 495 on conventional, and I’m really liking it. I went for 500 yesterday on sumo and couldn’t hit the target, no luck at 495 either unfortunately… But 465 felt real nice yesterday pulling sumo, I may even prefer the lift to conventional now. Sumo deadlifts are legit

I agree with this one about the flexibility, I tried to do sumo once and maybe because I never did it before it feels awkward and I can't get the starting position right.

And the last time someone ask me why I didnt do sumo, I just tell him

"I just can't do it, I didnt train for it and it feels really awkward for me 😂"
