Undoing the damage and redefining purity #purity #christiandating

Delphine redefines purity and unpacks the problems that purity culture has presented to Christians. Here's what she talks about:
- innocence shouldn't mean ignorance - we need to talk about sex
- purity isn't something you can give/take/lose, it's a daily choice
- virginity shouldn't be an idol
- sex isn't the prize
- rules without relationship lead to rebellion
- we need a balanced view of sex - not sexual liberation or repression
- sex shouldn't be an idol
- purity isn't just about the physical

Delphine reverted to her Catholic faith after a powerful interior conversion when she hit 30 (praise God!) She is now interested in living out real Christianity in the real world, digging into theological topics, running her own befriending charity and constantly striving to be a Godly woman in the modern age.

Found this really helpful! Thank you. The idea that purity culture leads to idolising sex even within marriage and that the theology of the body does away with that was helpful. Thank you!

To me, purity is from within our hearts, Matthew 15:10, 15:17

So why did Paul say to marry if you cannot control yourself sexually

I am not familiar with the Purity Culture. Is it like the Temperance Movement of yore?
I think purity is something to strive for. I am not quite sure what the intended audience is of this video, but this video seemed to me condescending to those who strive to protect their virginity. “Toxic?”
It was very hard for me, and I had plenty of times where I could’ve given it away (I believe from a spiritual standpoint it cannot be taken, but is given). I was a virgin up to my wedding night. However, my wife as well poo-pooed my virginity, “So what? You think you’re any better?” I came to the realization that it was, most importantly, between the Lord and I.

I think the shaming of dating by purity culture ie, I kissed dating good by has stuffed dating for a whole generation. It's the total opposite of what actually gets you a partner. It creates low self confident men, and women who shame them

As in, better to marry than to burn with lust?

It's surprising the outpouring of emotional support😂 it's like putting a bandage on a swollen wound. Purity is not something spoken about or cherished neither in our culture nor in our churches, so no wonder it's something that can be easily wasted.

Good message but why dump on the concept of purity?

Redefine it if you don’t like how it’s been taught. What you know about “purity culture” might not apply in the rest of the world.

The title of the video was misleading but your sermonette was great.

Virginity is the measure of purity full stop. And us women should encourage one another to remain pure, not saying it’s ok to lose virginity and that u can still be pure. Total nonsense. God designed virginity to be consumed in marriage and a covenant sealed by blood coming out during the act. And once this happens, it’s locked in heaven as marriage. So many people out there marrying people they don’t deserve b’se they are married to someone who else spiritually/heaven and not u Mr Bridegroom. So I encourage men to marry virgin women, and if women stay virgin, men won’t have sex anywhere. We will also marry men we are meant to be with.
