Genghis Khan and many of his officers observed that the comfortable lifestyle of dwelling within cities could make their warriors soft and lazy. This was why after conquering a city the Mongols would make sure to rotate their garrisoned Mongolian-cultured troops in and out of those cities.

If their Mongolian troops were stationed within a city for too long, they would have them sent back to the steppes of Mongolia to get reacquainted with their traditional way of life again. They didn’t want their warriors to get too fat, lazy, weak, or corrupt by being within cities for too long because those were some of the reasons why a number of their enemies had become so easy to conquer.

His culture didn't approve of settling and developing (for good reason) so he just captured smart and creative people to have a renesaunts for him lol

Yeah Gengis Khan was quite smart. In his efforts of making Mongol empire more developed and modern, we can see the genius of some few people in history, like Peter the Great for example.

"You missed a steppe"
Mongols: "Oh, Shit!"

"You missed a step"
Everyone: "Oh, shit!"

Karakouram was not a nomadic group but a permanent settlement. Something different from the traditional nomadic life of mongols. Karakouram was known as the ancient capital of Mongolia and the center of trade.

Mongolia at the time was like a massive expanse of extreme riches but small number of nomads. Compared to a normal person from anywhere at the time the mongols made yurts out of silk lining and gold and jewelry was commonplace. If you were a mongol at 1230-1368 your life would be unparalleled. To anyone of non noble descent

His son The second Great Khan Ogedei was the one that actually commissioned building a Capital in the mongol heartland

It was once said that if you were to pass through the silk road in Mongolia, a woman with gold in a basket on her head could travel comfortably

Those guys were good protecters, it was either submit or be destroyed, like, stomped into dust destroyed that gave them their infamousy

Probably one of the most under rated, successful conquerors in human history.
Had his legacy continued the world would most certainly be a much different place today.
And his influence still is. Just look at DNA.
And although his ability to incorporate conquered areas with intelligence.
Let us not forget the driving factor.
Sheer fear of the enmasse brutality and efficiency of his armies.
Horseback and recurved bows.
The fighter jets of their era.
And so much more.
To this day, modern military study his tactics. One of the original inventors of "Shock and Awe".
But like all autocratic type governments it too crumbled.
A lot to learn.

The Mongol invasions were probably the worst thing that ever happened to humanity other than disease and natural disaster.

*"A man's happiness lies in an empty step"*
As someone who once lived and travelled in Mongolian steps (and also has wandered in Scandinavian tundra), I can confirm this is very true.

"Preserve a traditional lifestyle"
500 years later you are completely encircled by Russians, when you could have colonised Siberia. Not the right call Genghis.

THANK YOU! I am so tired of people repeating the narrative of him just being a mindless raging barbarian, living to kill everything that moves. There is a fair share of "educational" channels on YouTube regurgitating that nonsense as well.
