Today, we are going to focus on the greatest of all Mongolian warrior-rulers, Genghis Khan, the man who brought together and unified the nomadic tribes of Mongolia. With him at the helm, the Mongol Empire became one of the greatest continental empires in history.

He was violent because the music and video games of his time made him that way.

It's always a little weird to me that someone like Ghengis Khan isn't really as vilified as someone like Hytler. I mean, as far as I know, that other guy didn't force his dna across most of the known world, and conquer for pretty much no reason other than wanting to do it.

There were tales of lone Mongol soldiers riding into surrendered villages and executing peasants at random as a test of loyalty. It was widely known that a single act of resistance would bring the entire Mongol army onto a town to obliterate its occupants. Living in the time of Genghis Khan sounds straight out of a horror movie where the bad guys win.

12:21 Whether or not the soldiers were against killing innocent people is not known, but some advisors were definitely against the massacres. One such person was Yelu Chucai, who would often tell the Mongols to tax the people instead of massacre them. This resulted in the third son of Ghengis asking him, "Are you going to weep for the people again?"

Pretty sure the Mongols set human development back several centuries when they destroyed Baghdad

Worse than killing the people of our people in nishapur And Samarkand, was the burning of all our history and knowledge books all in libraries in Neyshabur, which was the center of Iranian libraries at that time.
The only books left are from small libraries in other cities
Genghis Khan destroyed our history

Why don't we call these conquerors psychopaths?

Yet he is now given generally a positive image, despite being a merciless warlord who conquered from the Pacific to Eastern Europe.

It was the apocalypse for villages and cities when The Mongols came riding through

14:00 i love how for half of human civilization our choice of warfare has always been to fling heavy things at the enemy. Only really changing when we replaced heavy things with explosive things.

I grew up in Iran where Kharazmian kings were actually part of Persian history, I am impressed by the amount of research done into this video I have read most of these in our history books and of course some of it like the pearl woman in other books! 👏 good job!
Yes the Mongols were an absolute nightmare and even now whenever they’re mentioned we get scared thinking about it …
Only one thing is missing in this video of Mongols and Persian kingdom of Kharazmian :
The king’s Son Jalal
He is considered as one the bravest man ever lived in Persia to the level that even Chengiz himself praised him!
He fought for years against Mongols with unstoppable will despite being massively outnumbered hiding in the mountains!
There are some unconfirmed reports that khan even wished he would have been his son since in his eyes he was the bravest man he encountered!

Genghis Khan also very likely had a really good planning staff which is also a great thing to have for any conquering armies. But we know very little about who those people are.

Perhaps the only time in Internet History that the word, DECIMATED was used correctly. Keep up the good work!
