Our full Canon EOS R vs Sony A7III review is now live, but today, a low-light test in 4k on both cameras!

We shot 4K footage at 6400, 16000, 25600, 40000, 51200, and 102400 ISO, to test the low-light performance of both mirrorless cameras. We also wanted to test the low-light shooting at 1080p and 4K to see if it responds differently at each resolution.

We filmed the Sony a7III and EOS R 4k footage at standard picture profiles to compare these different resolutions on the cameras with similar settings. Keep a lookout for our full EOS R review coming soon!

At 4K the Canon Eos R would be at it worse because it is a crop, so the same as a smaller sensor. Why was the WB set to 2700K in 1080p for the Canon Eos R? With what color profile did you do the test?

I love that sony a7iii, curious how the colors compare on the canon eos R. I wish somebody would do a full video review between these two!

There is heavy noise reduction (cannot be disabled) before compression in camera on the Sony A7III, so it "looks" noisefree on stills, but look at moving objects - there are very rough edges and artifacts which reveals noise reduction which reduces general details in the image.

Could you please make another video comparing a flagship smart phone's camera(like the IPhone xs or the Samsung note 9 or any other one..) with the Canon EOS R at low light?

what were the shutter speed, and aperture for each?

Canon falls apart in noise and Sony falls apart in color, Sony’s picture start having a green look to it.

Can canon fix low light noise with firmware update, i wonder.

Let's get real, a little bit of extra noise can be dealt with in post.

You cannot added colour depth and informatuon in post which canon has nearly x4 more of. 400 plus bit rate vs sony's pathetic 100.

The AF in lowlight was the test I wanted to see if possible.

Ok, the Sony's performance is much better than Canon's in low light but there are other things that make me prefer Canon, like Canon's color science is much better than Sony's in my opinion, and its flip up screen is also a big deal... If I were to pick up one, I would choose the EOS R without any hesitation.
By the way, thanks a lot for the effort ❤️

Canon can't do low light and high iso. Sony can.

Wow, the A7III destroys the EOS-R! And to think they're charging more for less features and worse low-light... Canon really need to up their game.

What aperture did you use on the cameras?the a7iii has more depth of filed which means wider aperture =more light and less noise
