Founded in the 1876, Bodie was once known as a gold mining town. According to history, two large fires broke out in 1892 and 1932, destroying most structures in the town.

It became known as a ghost town in 1915 when its residents began to leave due to mining profits being low. Mining ceased in 1942. By the 1960s, Bodie had roughly 3 remaining residents up until 1962 when it became an official state historic park of California.

Bodie is now open to the public & visitors can see the towns preservation on their own self-guided tour. Most buildings are closed and can only be seen from a window view, while others can be walked through. Some of these structures include a school house, homes, saloons, jail, barns, church, and more!

Bodie is open to the public year-round, but weather and time of year can affect hours and accessibility.
