Wow! Bodey/Bodie is in remarkably good shape for an an abandoned town. I'm impressed. The food still in the cabinets is so intriguing to me...

Photo Journalist John R. Dean published a wonderful book on California State Parks in the off season, which includes Bodie. The first electric lines in California were reportedly built in Bodie. They built it in a straight line because at that time they thought the electricity would run off of the lines if they have a curve in them.

I love Bodie. I have been there many times in my life. As a kid we would camp and fish all along the eastern Sierras and we visited Bodie. The last time I was there was in Aug 2020. Great place lots of history. Thanks for the video.

We were the first 2 wheel drive vehicle in one year. We went there when camping at Convict Lake, after we went up Panum Crater south of Mono Lake, Our basset decided she was done with walking at the high altitude and went full flat basset at the visitor center. She barked and otherwise made it clear I should have been chasing the rabbits and feral cats while carrying her back up to the truck.

Lots of great one day trips out of that area. Convict Lake, Carson City, Virginia City.

One of my favorite state parks. VERY high altitude, so best in high summer - bring a drink, but not in a disposable bottle. Corduroy road a very long way in and out, but in great condition. Never actually crowded in my experience.

My Dad & his ilk could restore that car to it’s glory. Vintage car people are amazing that way, theytake a pile of parts, a rusted body & eventually a car looks like it was new is being driven. Of course many parts were built so many parts of it are new! I’m kinda rusty (like the car😄) but it looks like it could be a 1930s touring car.
We went to a lot of car museums & such growing up.

I was there back in mid 1970's. Very much in the middle of nowhere!

They are maintaining them in a state of "arrested decay, " is what we were told when we toured the place. It was a truly eerie feeling, and I wrote this Haiku poem that it inspired:
Bodie's gone, decayed;
Tourists, peeping Toms at windows
Disturb private pasts.

Sheri and I have been to Bodie Ghost Town two times, once with the kids and once with the Boyscouts. The place is amazing. My favortie qoute is from a young girl who traveled there with her family, "Goodbye God I'm going to Bodie." It truly explains what Bodie is like; desolate and very lonely.

Been there many times. You can continue east through the town on the dirt road and you'll end up in another gold mining ghost town called Aurora, Nv. From there you can follow a main dirt road out to Hwy359. You can also take another dirt road north out of Bodie and it'll go across a high plateau and then go down Aurora Canyon Rd. to Bridgeport.

I love your channel, you go to many of the places that we saw when we were raving! Don’t do it anymore because the calendar caught us, we’re 85! Sure some places have changed a lot since we were there ! Bodie is just the same though! Thanks!
