I love how you're so transparent about tracing and not just cutting footage to make it as if you drew it by hand also I like how you removed the stigma that tracing is bad, it's a tool and people should be allowed to use it if they want..
You're an amazing artist and person Scott...truly an inspiration.

I’ll usually trace photos of my hands (digitally) to draw them because hands are hard it does help me learn how to draw them though I’ll only trace if it’s a new hand pose and if I legitimately can’t draw them at that angle

Can you do a one hour sketch of Moriah Elizabeth? She makes so many fun expressions and she's another one of my favorite artists on YouTube

Tracing is how I learned anatomy. It helped me wrap my mind around all the weird curves and bumps on the human body

I've always felt bad when tracing. I do it because it saves me time and since i have very little time for Art these days i can't afford to re-draw the same face three times to get the likeness right, but i'll never shake off the feeling that if i was better, i wouldn't need to trace because i could just nail likenesses first try.

hello! i doubt you'll see this, but i think you're really an amazing person. you're so encouraging, and you often show how things don't go right in your art and that's something a lot of people don't show in their videos. your art is so wonderful too, and i think you have improved the art and lives of a lot of people. thank you, scott!

I draw digitally and have issues with proportions, I’ve recently done traces to get a feel for better proportions. Doesn’t replace my art style, it just helps me learn something I’m not great with.

It's so strange that no one talks about tracing as a learning tool. Thank you for being so brave and telling us. I feel better about how I'm learning

Thank you for this! There is definitely a stigma around tracing, but there shouldn't be. It really is a wonderful tool for beginners. For YEARS I had trouble getting my proportions right when drawing people/bodies/faces. I watched tons and tons of videos, used the grid method, practiced and practiced filling entire sketchbooks with figure drawings, even took a few classes and all with very little improvement. I REALLY wanted to be able to paint people but my artwork was pretty much limited to landscapes and more abstract stuff. Then I started using tracing as a tool to get better with my proportions and it also helped me a lot with values. It cut my learning curve by YEARS. Now it just feels like muscle memory and my proportions have improved by leaps and bounds. It really is a great learning tool.

i don’t think you realize how amazing this channel is, just seeing a video makes my day instantly better. i know you won’t see this, but if you do, thank you for making these videos. i’m not even that much of an artist, but you’ve given me motivation to do other things, and i just want to say thank you.

thank youuuu! I've felt really bad about tracing, since all my friends can make really cool art without needing to trace, but all i ever do is trace. but more recently, i've started only using tracing for base shapes, and freehanding around them, so this video helps me feel better about tracing.

Tracing helps me to learn because I'm the type of person who learn and understand things easily when doing it and not just studying from theories. Tracing or just observing makes me understand how things get to connect with each other and their movements (like with anatomy) and memorize them. I have more things I've learned by memorizing with tracing than with theories

I always am told that tracing isn’t “real art” and make me feel bad about it. Thank you for making this video, it’ll help me a lot!
