Difference between a Lawyer and an Advocate

Wrong. Actually the term lawyer has no mention in Indian legal system. Term lawyer and attorney finds its origin in US and other western legal system, mainly US. Terms barrister and solicitor are used in UK legal system. Similarly in India, the term used is Advocate.

LAWYER origins from old English word Lawe which means the one who interprets the law and the the one who interprets the law is the one who practices law.

ATTORNEY origins from old French word attorn meaning one who is appointed.

LAWYER and ATTORNEY are widely used to represent the one who practices law.

Ex. Defence Attorney, Human Rights Attorneys, Defence Lawyers, Family dispute Lawyers, etc., .

VAKKEEL origins from Arabic word wakīl means representative. The one who represents. From this comes vakalat (an agreement accepting to be represented by another)

ADVOCATE origins from the Old Latin word advocare which means "to be in one's aid".

The term advocate is a general term which is used in many fields and it is also a verb. Ex. He is an advocate for women health, policy advocates, consumer advocate, etc., . Advocate, advocates, advocated, advocating.

Therefore, the right noun to address the one who practices law is LAWYER or Vakkeel.

It's better is he is addressed as வழக்கறிஞர் (a scholar of suits or cases).

Dear sir who is better advocate or attorney, please urgent reply. As I want to transfer property of expired mother as advocate is saying I need a heirship certificate for transfer whereas a attorney is saying that it can be done without it through khata transfer ( Maharashtra, Mira Bhayander)

I checked the Cambridge dictionary. Lawyer: Someone whose job is to give advice to people about the law and speak for them in court:
I want to see my lawyer before I say anything.
