Mercedes-Benz 7G gearbox relearn procedure

Relearn procedure for most Mercedes-Benz vehicles equipped with the 7G 7 speed transmission. I reset mine every couple of months and drive it very gently for 15-20 minutes because it’s the most sluggish transmission I’ve ever had in a vehicle. If anyone has any additional suggestions, please share in the comments.

I prefere manual, but it its so hard to find in new cars. Yes DCT shifts super fast at medium and high speeds (like a race car), but when problems occure after warranty, maintenance will be expensive.

Hi @brian so basically the steps are:
1. Turn key to 2nd on position (cluster lights turn on)
2. Hold down gas pedal for at least 10 secs
3. Turn key to off position (cluster lights turn off)
4. Hold down gas pedal for additional 10 secs at least.
5. Let go of gas pedal.
6. Start car and drive round for 15-20 mins so the adaptive gearbox can relearn the way I drive.

Is this correct?

Hey! Nice video! :) I have A200 with DCT. Usually it is lagging when i use it in traffic especially shifting 1. and 2. gears back and forth. What dou you think softwear updates on motor and transmission softwear ? Could help something ? Really annoying this lagging and also hear some noisy too. The other gears are okay. I experineced in Sport mode not doing it every time, strange.... Diesel engines do the same ? They have more basic power to roll over the gears. Thank you for your answer.

I have a 2013 W204 and do a lot of stop/start in heavy traffic & after a month or so the shift changes get all screwed up, particularly the down shifts, often in 4th going around a corner making it really sluggish. Anyway, so reset mine every month & it's like new again.
Do you know if after a reset if you changed up/down manually for 15min would it remember that shift pattern when in drive? Or does it only adapt when in drive?

Appreciate you posting a video as it is nice to see the exact make and model. I’ve been doing this reset on the adaptive transmission and it fixes for a short period. After a while, the engine will actually shut off while idling at a light. I’m wondering if this is a transmission issue or something different. Just want to be informed before I connect with a mechanic. Cheers

thanks for the information. never knew this trick. I bought a 2019 C43 brand new and wanted to do a proper break-in so I drove it extremely carefully so it might be a little sluggish. Are the changes noticeable?

Can you tell me more wich problems you had with the transmission? I have also a Cla 220 and in traffic the car doesn’t change good anymore, and I can’t change to sport modus or manual. When I arrived home next day it’s good again. Is this one of the symptoms?

I'm having a problem with the low gear shift 4-3-2-1 sometimes going from 5-4 to 2nd gear would this be solved by trying something like this?

I absolutely HATE this transmission. Only had mine for 2 months, & already want something else. Adaptive transmission has to be one of the worst design ides ever.

Does the engine need to be hot or cold to do this ?
