The Power of Patience for Leaders

The power of slowing down. "Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast." This is a term used in many circumstances, so let’s discuss how leaders must understand the value of patience.

Stand by to hear my thoughts on how great novelists and the military help guide us in understanding patience.

I was recently inspired by a friend posting on social media about the value of time. His comments about learning to understand the value of time were spot on truly, and I wanted to expand on a famous quote that includes time as value, but another key ingredient for success is patience. Leo Tolstoy said, “The two most powerful warriors are patience and time.”

A common term in the military is the “Tactical Pause.”
When unsure of what lies ahead, stop for a moment — look, listen and think — especially before rushing to failure.

Patience is power. Patience is not an absence of action;
Rather than "timing," it waits on the right time to act, for the right principles, and in the right way.

Albert Einstein said, I think and think for months and years. Ninety-nine times, the conclusion is false. The hundredth time I am right.

Patience is learning to handle the passing of time. Building your profession, your team, and your organization takes time.
The ultimate patience is with yourself. It takes time to figure it all out.
Take a cleansing breath, slow down and realize that patience is a leadership trait to embrace.
