Just got mine, it is incredible! It feels like a trail bike, I can easily hang with my friends riding non ebikes and if/when needed I can accelerate and follow up with e-bikes except on tight singletrack where I smoke them :)

Another awesome review to help the hard decision about how to navigate the sea of new and variable technology of e-bikes. Very objective. Gotta try one of these!

Francis, thanks for reviewing this. You should visit Santa Clara County some time. There are a few trails you might enjoy.

Impressive bike! In particular, looks, climbing performance, weight. A real tribute to the overall ride quality if you say the Shuttle SL feels better than your other trail bikes. My only caveat would be the integrated battery. Although it helps making the down tube very light, it is not for everyone. On a recent 3 months backcountry trip, I often charged my 2 TQ batteries (360Wh 4A chargers) in coffee shops. 2.5 hours and ready for another 80-100 miles of riding.

I Love my Shuttle SL, I just keep it on eco and I can't believe range I get out of it. I regularly ride with full fat e-bikes and yes they can put it in turbo and ride away on the climbs but I'm pretty sure I'll be the one that can keep going. Also rides great and it's far easier to get over a gate or fence, that few kg makes a big difference to me on the trail and moving the bike around.

Looking forward to the compare and review with the Shuttle AM.

Great information. I have an early version of this bike and I’m curious what “issues” you’re watching for that you’ve heard about. My motor feels a little drag while climbing, but it’s intermittent—and the sound is noticeably louder when it’s dragging. As you discovered, I compared this back-to-back with the Fuel EX-e, and the Shuttle SL felt much livelier even they both are 50nm, except for the temporary boost of the SL, which I don’t count. And yes, I made sure the EX-e was adjusted to full power in the app. Interesting.

5' 8" and I chose small @ 440 reach, with 160 zeb. Feels great!

I did get a chance to demo this bike for a day, my only issue was the cheap feeling motor power switch and the integrated frame LEDs. For 12K bike i expect more. Also how does the top tube pop up usb handle weekly washes after rides, or having your bike on your rack driving through rain. Sealed would be my option. The choice of components, wheels brakes, just perfect. Compared with Specialized selling a 10k+ with sram rs brakes, very poor choice. The rear also felt firm, not as plush as the orbea or levo sl. The tech told me that was a characteristic of the DW link. Which helped with tech climbs. Personally I prefer more travel, 150 vs 132. It rode like it had 132, not as forgiving on the steeps. It would be nice if the higher priced bike companies invested in developing more bespoke integrated tech. It feels like a lot are just slapping in a motor, battery and calling it day. A push button speed controller with solid feel buttons would go a long way vs that cheap feeling dial. At least for 12K, a nice used car.

Wouldn’t it matter what gear you are in? Being in a harder gear will give you a higher top speed with the same amount of power used in general right?

mikes.

Your tests sre the best. I wonder what did change. Did Pivot tuned up the Fazua? Did the energy usage go up?

This is the performance i was expecting from Fazua. I find the TQ power not enough for ny needs (out if shape old man here) so i was expecting the Fazua a bit punchier, but your previous test indicated they were very dimilar in performance.

Regarding the time differences of other fazua powered bikes, you could test one of them with latest fazua firmware, or atleast list which firmware you test with. That could help to identify the gap. 😛👍🏼

so the 60nm torque is that in rocket mode?or the 12 second boost mode, im curious what the torque numbers are in each mode.

Saw one of these out on the trails and it was love at first sight. But the price is ultimately a heartbreaker for me.

I’m in the market for a SL who makes a better product Santa Cruz or specialized?

Interesting that the Orbea Rise was the fastest SL in your mile hill climb, I wonder if the full fat EP8 motor helps, even if it is detuned. Could allow for better maps as there is more capacity.

Looks like a great bike, a little expensive for me, can you do the giant trance x e elite in the future please

Maybe I'm alone on this, but I don't care how fast my eBike is. I ride my EXe in eco mode 99% of the time anyway. I just need a little boost to get to the top of our long Colorado climbs. Also, I wouldn't give up the nearly silent TQ motor for a little extra boost. I do, however, wish the EXe battery lasted longer.

I am deciding this week between an Orbea Rise M-team and a comparable Shuttle SL. I’ve ridden the Rise and loved it but have never ridden a Shuttle SL and the local shop doesn’t have one to demo. Price isn’t a huge concern because these things are all stupidly expensive but Pivot is $11K and I can get the Rise at 25% off so $7.5K. You’ve ridden both. Any words of advice? Both seem very nice.
