iPad sculpting app – Nomad App vs Forger App

Which iPad sculpting app? This question is the one I get asked every day. Literally. Should I choose Nomad Sculpt or Forger App?

Well, now I think it's time I answered it and there are a few reasons why.

Firstly, Maxon just bought Forger App. So just like Sculptris being acquired by Pixologic and Substance Painter being bought by Adobe, a large, creative entity has grabbed one of the two main iPad sculpting apps.

I'll share my opinions, concern and why I'm excited about the future and also I'll answer the question of which app I think you should put all you focus on for now.

3d sculpting software has changed so much in recent years and a whole new sector of digital sculpting apps is around the corner.

Will Nomad app lead the pack or does Maxon have a great opportunity with its newly acquired Forger App.

Which do you prefer and why?

What should Maxon Focus on first?

I just got an iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil and one of the things I was most excited about was getting back into sculpting. I have owned forger for a while and just discovered Nomad in the App Store today. I am VERY glad to have found this video. It is my experience that when larger software companies buy independent creative tools, it is NEVER good for the current users. Your advice to buy and use both is wise. I think I will not be investing a large amount of time in forger at this point as I trust a high end 3D software company about as far as I can comfortably spit a rat and I refuse to pay subscriptions for my tools. So Nomad looks and sounds great!

Nomad for sure. It´s already a amazing package and made by one guy. I´ve already had good experience with developer interaction through the forum or from new discord channel. I´ve asked couple feature requests that i miss from desktop side like zbrush etc. They are now both in the app, pretty different turnaround from a bigger companies where users seems to be ignored.

I started with Forger. I had no sculpting back ground so it was challenging for me to learn, because there wasn't a lot out there in the way of good tutorials. when I started watching Glen sculpt it gave me some confidence to try it out. Nomad came along and the way it presented itself felt more intuitive for a newbie like myself so i switched, although I didn't get rid of Forger. I'm super grateful for the person/team who brought about Forger, and I'm super happy they were bought out and hopefully got a lot of money for their hard work.

I'm excited to see where both of these programs go. I'm slow at sculpting because I don't have a lot of time. even with an ipad i struggle to have time in my life right now, but I'm super excited for Glen's new Dinosaur tutorial! hopefully i can start on it this weekend!

It's all about the updates and right now Nomad is killing it with the frequent new features and updates.

i got Nomad recently and love it. I tried Forger this weekend and it wasn't as intuitive as Nomad - and as you wondered early on in this video, would Forget become a subscription service? Yeah, it did. I may still try it but honestly, I don't feel any need to get into Forger. Besides - I've got Blender where I can import my nomad scupts into if i ever decide to do anything more complex...

As somebody who bought both, nomad is by far the one that is way more worth it in my opinion, but the only major downfall where forger comes in is when it comes to anything with UVs. The reason why I care about UVs is because that’s what the plush pattern program I use needs.

I recently discovered Nomad and found my love for sculpting was only merely sparked after many years of modeling inactivity. I dabbled with it and created a simple witch's cap mushroom. However when I discovered your channel and videos I became intensely inspired by your creation of swamp thing and have since been learning and reconnecting with my sculpting. Thank you very much for your videos and your helpful courses!

I've got the Nomad on my Tab S6 and am amazed by the features, UI and performance

I find forger easier for organic sculpting like faces.
But nomads is brilliant and a little more easier for hard surfaces than zbrush especially cuttingand trimming and makeing holes.👍

I've found that fantastic sculpting app Forger is more suitable and practical for my needs. Also, it's pretty easy to use and works fluidly on my iPad 8th generation.

This is interesting looking back now (Maxon having acquired Zbrush as well). Maxon is an amazing company, and I never felt ignored when I was a C4D artist.

Thanks for another great video! I have both apps but currently using Nomad. It is so awesome that you can have this kind of app on your mobile device! The greatest thing in Nomad is that you can setup your light and it will render the shadows :).
Keep on doing those amamazing videos, you are my main source of the "Nomad knowledge" :)!

Personally I find Nomad sculpt a lot more intuitive than Forger.

Answer for your dilemma question - Maxon just bought Zbrush :) Check and Mate ) But today Nomad is more professional than Forger. But, thank you for video

thank you for the recommendation! I have wanted to get into digital sculpting for a while now but never had the hardware for it. Now I'm watching these videos because I've decided to go with the 16gb RAM iPad pro as my main art device/laptop replacement for the near future. I hope with that amount of power for a mobile "art tablet" I will get at least few years of use out of it. I don't know if either of these apps can use the full 16gb ram already but I definitely feel like I'm future-proofing my setup for at least the next few years. It's just a bit of a shame that the ram is linked with the storage capacity, I can see people having a use for that much power but not needing 1tb or more. I guess it's nice to have but my wallet is definitely crying.

I am a traditional sculptor — I desire to learn to 3D sculpt on my iPad for resin printing — it will up my game

Started using Blender when Maxon took over and subsequently ruined Zbrush imo… Also started using Nomad when Maxon took over Forger and now it’s a pay per month app with very few if any updates. Maxon seems intent on taking the innovation out of 3D sculpting whilst holding it’s users to monthly ransom payments.

I look forward to hearing more about the direction of 3D sculpting. I’m just entering the digital world from traditional by purchasing Nomad and couldn’t be more excited with the amount of knowledge being shared. Thanks for sharing this video!
