Terra cotta is not ideal for tomato plants, it's way too porous and dries out way too quickly, and tomatoes need a moist environment; use a plastic container that is food grade (look on the bottom, a 2 is safe for growing food.

San Marzanos are determinate they don't get very big so no need for such a tall trellis

Really? Just one for a container that size? 😭 I got containers around that size, but made from plastic. I was about to have a whole ecosystem in each of them. I was thinking maybe 2 tomatoes, basil, marigold and alyssum. Would that be too much for one container? Or would leaving it all to just one plant give better yield in the end?
