2:27 Matt's intro.
11:10 Eve's intro.
14:54 David (he/him) - Theist | Caller claims that the god he believes in is "something that transcends the mundane" and that is "more desirable than the material."
52:51 Pony (he/him) - Atheist/Theist? | Caller proposes a question for hosts: "is it possible that we actually were genetically built to have a sense of spirituality to separate us from the other primates, leading us to a better path, until we could develop the systems that allowed us to move beyond religion?"
1:17:18 Tom (he/him) - Theist | "The very fact that me, or any of us, or any physical element, exists makes me think that there was some consciousness at some point in time that caused the Universe to come into being."
1:38:29 Patrick (he/him) - Theist | Caller is deconstructing his faith and wants some resources on where to start researching about the history of the bible. [Wishing all the best for Caller on his journey! <3]
1:52:11 James (he/him) - Theist | "If the Earth and Universe is perfectly sound, how is that not created by a creator?"
2:05:31 Shaun (he/him) - Atheist | [TW: familial abuse] Caller shares why he still has some spiritual beliefs and why he decided to let his kid "go through the religious process."
2:23:27 Cole (they/them) - Atheist | Caller is concerned about people opting out of voting and the potential danger of that, as it might lead to a worse result. [I sympathize with Caller's fear so much].
2:35:16 Superchats.

Two from my top 10 favourite people on the Internet on the same day as host and cohost. What a good day it is.

I find joy in the small things in life, birds in my garden, walking through the woods. A beautiful sunset. We are all part of Nature. That is a fact. At least the Wiccans and Pagans have that right. Caller seens to suggest that these things are not important but they lift my spirits and help my mental health.

I remember watching Matt yrs ago, getting upset and cussing at people and hanging up on them. I was like damn he's kind of mean. But I've talked to people about their beliefs, and all they do is just give me a non answer, or they didn't listen to my questions. I get why Matt's like that. It's irritating to ask a question and have people not answer the question I just asked.

David has spent his entire life mastering the craft of word salad, he has transcended reality.

The more knowledge I gain, the more mental suffering I have, because if you're not angry/sad/ about what's going on in the world, you're not paying attention. I don't know how gaining knowledge could possibly end suffering. As someone with chronic pain, I can tell you that nothing I have learned has done a thing to take away my pain.

In respect to the “mundane” guy, he’s essentially advocating for one of the most extreme views of Buddhism. The story of Shakyamuni, the originator of Bhuddism’s story illustrates the sad nature of this view. In response to his fears of suffering and the loss of the things he cared about when he’d die, he tried to purge himself of anything he’d miss. The irony of this is that in doing so, he’s already lost them. He essentially responded to his fear of death by ceasing living. This is just suicide without killing yourself.

I’ve been attached to my wife for 44 years. We’re both in our 80’s. Life moves ever forward so one of us is likely to become unattached in the near future. Life is finite so it’s a normal part of living. We’ve had a great run, and are grateful for it. David has nothing to offer us.😂😂🍸😊😊

David is genuinely impressive at saying random words that can't be locked down to anything meaningful.

"How can you prove it's created?" "Because it's here."

"I don't know where I'm going with this..." understatement of the year

Another issue I had with Shaun is that he started out by saying his father joined a Muslim sect that was "harmful" but he "went along with it to keep peace in the family" but he never actually believed in Islam. THEN he says Islam is an ethnic as well as a religious identity, which of course is bullshit - Danny Thomas, for example, was a Lebanese Christian. He says he wants to take his son to the mosque, but not for prayers or Quranic studies? What's he planning on telling the Imam?? They're only there for milk and cookies, and maybe a game or two of basketball?

I don't know if David is the most confused caller ever, but he's definitely in top 5...

What a great episode!! Good calls and bad calls. Matt is the GOAT imo, and Eve is great as well. I wish more people would be taught to think critically.

Re. David’s call. As a Buddhist, yes, it is quite possible to disassociate the body from suffering through altering the brain with meditation practice. However, like Christianity, this experience is all subjective and not provable from a materialist perspective. David speaks using Buddhist terminology that does indeed have scientific and philosophical significance, but using the Buddhist terminology instead of the mainstream terminology, he makes himself sound like a star child.

*Caller Shaun ;* _(conditional friendship ?)_
He introduced his son to Islam, so he could make friends.
But would these "friends" still stand by him, if he concluded that Islam was mythology ?
Conditional, not based on who you are as a person, but instead on what religious beliefs you hold.

David is one of those people that walk into Subway and orders a burger, isn't he?

I'm gonna start saying "their bong is broken" to describe someone who's a bit dim. 🤣
