What's crazy to imagine is that this is the 'mini' version.
Imagine if Fatshsark ever made a game with a space marine in it and designed a regular bolter.

These devs did their homework well. This is the most "boltery" bolter I've ever seen, considering they typically feel like just any machinegun in other Warhammer shooters. Here in Darktide, the bolter looks and feels like an automatic mini-rocket launcher, just like it should be. Bravo.

Glad they made bolters so unwieldy to use in this game. They're meant to be used by space marines and even the toned-down version like this for normal people are meant to be used with power armor to handle well, which is why the Sororitas are one of the few groups to commonly field regular humans with bolter rifles. Also awesome to see each bullet is like a very tiny grenade too.

What they really nailed, and what makes a Bolt Gun distinguishable from other sci-fi guns, is how incredibly WIDE that frame is. It eclipses the hand grip, and takes up a noticeably larger chunk of the POV. We’re not even talking about the weapons team version, the baseline. Other media doesn’t account that, sometimes even the GW models. But I will be fair, a lot of times bolters are being held by Astartes, who even without wearing armor outsize every Guard. Hence a bigger grip.

whats even more scary is that bolter is actually a nerfed version of the Astartes bolter. If a guardsmen shot the Astartes bolter, it would literally tear off their arm from the recoil alone.

You dont have to wait for ogryn with shield to expose himself, you can shoot his shield and you're still gona kill him with one magazine lol

I love the details on it myself. The way the selector indicator on the back actually slides across to indicate fire mode, the way that you can inspect it and the character actually pulls back on the charging handle to open the chamber and that you can actually SEE into the chamber if you angle it right to see the rounds sitting in the mag.

Big props to the developers for _really_ nailing how a bolter should sound, look and feel.
That meaty bass sound, far deeper than any rifle or pistol of our world, the rate of fire slightly lower than a machine gun, _little_ explosions just after the bolt has impacted, and absolutely ferocious recoil in the hands of a standard human.
What a perfect lore-accurate representation.
I adore it when creators put the effort into the research of the IP they're portraying.

I think I now understand the reasoning why in lore the Space Marines' bolter (much bigger than this one) has enough recoil to shatter human bones
