Tracking your Heart Rate and HRV isn't just for professional athletes, today we're going to take a look at Heart Rate Variability and your risk for cardiovascular disease #1 Killer in America.

If you're consuming a bunch of stimulants, lots of stress both physical and mental and you're not getting enough rest and recovery then your nervous system is out of balance. This over stimulation can cause your immune system to fatigue, ultimately resulting in disease and burnout. You can only red line for so long before something breaks down.

what a great video, deserves many more views! thanks for the info. i'm 28 and have been trying to get more healthy and fit so i monitor these on my fitbit. my resting heart rate is the lowest i've had at 53 now but my HRV hovers around 38-50 which i don't think is quite as good, so i'm hoping that will improve.

What if my resting heart rate is good and my HRV is low too? My RHR is 53 and my HRV is 66 today

Thank you for the video, very interesting. I am a reasonably fit but over weight 72 yr old male. I train on a Concept 2 during the winter but reduce workload in summer has I play and practice golf. I have recently converted to, % of Heart Rate reserve + resting heart, for my training zones. My resting heart at start of this winter training was 72 bpm. I have a max Heart rate of 169 ( a guess because I stop at 165 bpm with something in reserve). After 5 weeks training my resting HR is now 66 bpm but the above calculation has lowered all my training zones. Does this seem right to you?.

My resting heart rate is between 76-84. When I am anxious it is 88. Another thing is my maximum heart rate does not cross 145. Another thing is after running my pulse rate increases to a number closer to 150 and within a minute it drops. The drop is huge.I have seen videos which say that heart rate above 82 means risk of cardiac problems. These kind of videos make people anxious and will do more damage. I know people who have so many problems with resting heart rate above 88 and are living a decent life. a little higher heart rate does not mean a person will die with heart attack. It is ridiculous to say a that 70 plus heart rate is risky. Just think about the effect of these videos on people with high heart rate. It is damaging. A person can be physically active and have heart rate more than 85. It has something to do with the size of the heart. People with smaller heart size have to do more work to pump blood.

You didn’t mention what I have is low resting heart rate (58 bpm) low HVR (51)

Edit, never mind, for my age 37, my HVR is right where it should be

interesting i have dysautonomia (dysfunction of the ans). my resting hr is about 90 i am only 23. my watch says my average hrv is 12. i want to fix both of these :/
i eat very good and work out 5x a week tho and no improvement..mostly just walks and strength exercises tho. i think cardio will be wayyyy more beneficial though but i have to be careful with how much my hr increases with little activity. do you know how high u can get safely while doing cardio?
any tips?

My resting heartbeat is 48-52. and can get down to 40 ish, if I sleep.
I am probably a healthy 17 year old female but I don’t consider myself an athlete because I really don’t know how that is defined.
I really don’t know if that is healthy though.

Thank you for this. I was worried my resting heart rate was too low as it was under 60 but it seems that is a good thing. I exercise every day ranging from moderate to high-intensity. My resting heart rate ranges from around 48-52 on average

92, at the doctor, 104 (although I guess I was a bit stressed). I am fit (not a professional marathon athlete) why is this happening?
