ABOUT DRESSRELIEF
My name is Mariel, and I started getting into fashion in the past few years and am learning so much about it. I'm drawn to fashion as I believe it is an art form that not only allows individuals to express themselves but also creates a history and record of different time periods and generations. I've had a lot of fun learning how to put together outfits and use different styles to tell a story through the way I dress. I started this channel to share what I learn along my fashion journey and hopefully help others learn and find their style as well.

I post videos at least every other week, mostly regarding fashion but may include a few beauty/makeup and lifestyle related videos as well. If you're interested in this content, please give my channel a shot and subscribe!

Yes to more 90s aesthetics! I was too young in the 90s to wear the fashion then, so I want to make up for it now.

I feel like 90s minimalism and 90s grunge may be making a comeback. I really hope it does, because I absolutely love the fashion of the 90s. I've been into 90s minimalism, 90s grunge, kinderwhore, etc.. for like two years now. Especially kinderwhore, I really like the look of it.

Yaaay!! This is definitely the aesthetic that i feel most comfortable with. I also like to mix it with a little bit of 90s witchy items (like in Sabrina). I'd love to see a part 2 of this or an outfits video with some "90s girl next door" ideas 🖤

90s had some fun aeshetics for sure but i think a correction needs to be made here and i dont mean this in a mean way but with the "Kinderwhore" look, Courtney Love's later 90s dresses with the silky slip dresses, that wasnt really a kinderwhore look, it was more just ethereal (which people now call "whimsigothic" lol). If you're talking Courtney's actual Kinderwhore style, fhats mostly her late 80s, early 90s looks (pre Live Thru This, into Celebrity Skin is when she moved away from the kinderwhore style). And someone else mentioned Kat Bjelland and yeah, i feel like the style did orginate from her because she did wear the silhoutte of the babydoll dress. I think Courtney was influenced by her bandmate and partook in the look and help popularize it. Courtney wanted to be famous and Kat wanted to just stick to the underground and that is what played a part in their split.

Antway sorryz just nerding out as a Hole and Babes In Toyland fan haha. Nice breakdown video

kinderwhore and grunge are two separate aesthetics tho, kinderwhore was mostly started by kat bjelland in the late 80s i believe, and courtney love piggy backed off of it, grunge is music based. so saying courtney love brought this romantic stuff to the aesthetic is kinda not really the point of kinderwhore it’s taking stuff that is usually seen for children and roughing it up making it dirty as a protest tk the sexualization is children. yes i can see the overlap within the two sometimes but they are two different aesthetics in the end and i don’t want to sound mean but also check out babes in toyland(kat bjelland’s band)

Please go into POC centered g 90s aesthetics because this is like the one genre where you can probably find a whole thing that only Latinos/Asians/black people were wearing at the time with relative ease.

Yes more 90s aesthetics! I was in high school from 96-00 and it’s awesome to see this vid! When I think of girl next door I really think of Katie Holmes on designs creek even tho I didn’t really watch that show lol

what icks me about the kinderwhore aesthetic is def the name. in german, kinder means children and the fact that this aesthetic has a rather childish and small girl vibe to it leads me to think who came up with that name?😃

I was 16 in 1990 and 26 in 2000 and feel blessed. I really think you nailed it so well and it's not an easy decade to describe. The 90s was the first time ever that thrifting was more fashionable for many aesthetics than shop bought and designerwear. Hip Hop was much more label orientated if that was your vibe. I remember my wardrobe having camisole tops, leggings Dr Martens stretched necked woolens and t shirts. Pre appropriation understanding there was a LOT of mixed culture aesthetic, I would gravitate towards items that had been donated from people who had travelled across the world like items from Nepal, India and Africa. Obviously I'm not suggesting that should be repeated but it was a thing back then. Unfortunately a lot of Western brands noticed this and began to use any cultural print or style to sell fast fashion. I'm mentioning this for historical purposes only. Floral wasn't fashionable but as you said, you could get away with tiny amounts of floral. I'm really impressed with this upload ❤

90's grunge is poor midwestern people fashion. Whatever you can get for cheap, wear it, and you hace the spirit of grunge. Thinking about it is the opposite of the point. Jeans, t-shirts, tank tops, flannels, and sneakers with dark or minimal/no makeup. Loose hair (male and female) or ponytail.
