For the first time, parishes within the Church of England will permit special services for gay couples, involving rituals such as ring-wearing, prayers, confetti, and blessings from priests, although formal weddings are not allowed.

Despite the Church's official stance that marriage is exclusively between a man and a woman, an amendment supporting these services on a trial basis passed in the General Synod by a one-vote margin.

This approval means that distinct blessing services may now be permitted, going beyond mere prayers within a regular church service.

While there is no specific timeline for the commencement of these temporary trial services, authorization could potentially occur in the coming weeks, with the first services anticipated in the new year.
