Our anxiety about the future - feeling that we’re destined for ruin and disgrace - may feel like a rational assessment of our present circumstances. But its roots most likely stretch far further back: to forgotten traumas we underwent in the past.

I've learned from this channel that childhood is more traumatic than a car crash.

School of Life has made horrifically realize how vastly we underestimate the importance of a well balanced, well developed childhood and teenage years. There are just so many factors that go into it that it’s overwhelming; environment, education, culture, parents themselves, family, etc.

“If you’re angry, you live in the past. If you’re anxious, you live in the future. If you’re at peace, you live in the present.”

Saw that on the side of a business in my town square.

Aaaaand I'm crying. Wow, I wouldn't have guessed that a 3 minute video could speak so directly to my problems and move me like this

Yes, I noticed this about myself. I avoid uncomfortable situations and taking risks due to fear of the outcome. The fear stemming from my past in school, and being prescribed Ritalin to concentrate in class. Constantly getting mediocre grades, repeating grade 5 and my first year of high school. Going to summer school, etc. My self esteem is very fragile

Trauma that affects our adulthood is most likely unresolved trauma that we are unaware or deliberately avoid to confront. There’s still a lot of discipline within yourself to keep yourself in check…unconsciously doing the things we try to avoid.

This broke me. I had a bad breakdown yesterday. I feel like I’m just a burden on everyone and my future has no hope. I’m fighting still, but I feel like there might be a fight in the future that I can’t win. It doesn’t help being flat broke and not being able to afford professional help. 😔

I used to dread tomorrow so much I stay up all night to "delay" tomorrow and its responsibilities.

In short, A grown up adult is trying to fathom the future with the trauma of helplessness of its childhood. Projection of the the past on to the future.

I don’t think I have a traumatic childhood but I literally developed trauma, fear and anxiety because of school. My fear of the future made me realize my insecurities. I was afraid I couldn’t reach my own expectations even though my parents repeatedly told me “high grades aren’t important as long as u passed”. I woke up in the morning full of consternation. My mind was already thinking all the fake and worst scenarios, especially if I had an idea what was going to happen. The unpredictability of the future was frightening as I only wanted was to have control over my life. I can still recall those times when I had no one talk about it because it felt absurd fearing nobody would understand me.
Year 2020 gave me time to reflect on my self like “why do I want to have control of my life? it’s not like I’m God or Omnipotent”. I realized I should concentrate on:
1) winning over my mind
2) accepting my flaws
3) letting go things not beyond my power

I’m not sure if I have healed or still in the process of healing. All I know is this video didn’t exist when I needed it the most🤣

To all the dreamers out there, don't ever let the world's negativity disenchant you or your spirit. If you surround yourself with love and right people, ANYTHING is possible. 🙏
