Imagine being stuck at the bottom of the ocean sitting right next to the Titanic

well done to the times radio team who kept the screen cursor on the video call

This would be a total nightmare for me. I'm feeling very anxious just hearing about this. I would not pass the claustraphobia test to even board a submarine. God help them and the Coast Guard.

It's something on his screen, not yours. I tried removing it too before I realised.

As a former submarine sailor in the US Navy, I feel for these people!! They should have emergency back up systems that should surface the boat, but from 12, 000 feet down that might be problematic!! I hope they are found safe!! You buys yer ticket, and takes yer chances!! Good luck to them!!

Seems like a huge mistake in engineering, to be honest. The failsafes should happen immediately. Need to have two or three redundant "abort" systems that are independent of each other and of the main system. Have some kind of "heartbeat" signal that gets sent to them from the main system, and if it doesn't hear that signal for a few minutes or an hour, the whole thing comes up. Also, no way does radio reach down. Even the US Navy with specialized LONG antennas and systems can only receive just below the surface, by comparison. Once you get down to different levels, layers of warmer or cooler or more or less saline water will create barriers to acoustic data transmission. (Note that those layers can also interfere with sonar location)

It's not five specialists, it's one pilot, one "content manager" (tour guide) and three passengers. It's also a ship, not a boat, that holds the sub. The sub is the boat.

I don’t think people realize the avg sub has a Crush depth of 10, 000’ or so. A lot can only reach 1, 000’. So when you dealing with 12, 500’ the risk is incredible.

It's apparent by now that whatever number of failsafe systems it had, it was one less than required. Because they were not well designed failsafes, and thus are not failsafes. In a GOOD design, if it loses power, then the solenoid hold-closed valves on the ballast purge tanks would open, thus automatically blowing the ballast tanks, forcing an ascent.

Everyone take a drink every time buddy says, "As far as we're aware." You would think that many of the questions which elicited those responses could be answered more directly.

Imagine being one of two billionaire passengers on board, one with his 19yo son, and no amount of money can help you

Why can't people leave the Titanic alone? We already have enough videos of the ship wreck. Let the victims rest in peace.

As a serving Submariner, I sincerely hope they are rescued. I’m not sure how much survival/escape equipment a commercial submarine has though, but time is something they certainly don’t have on their side.

Being trapped under water is in the top 3 of anyone's nightmares. At 2.4 miles deep I hope the sub can stand the 6000 psi water pressure for long periods until they are hopefully found alive.

13 kids were saved in a flooded cave 2 miles back. 4 kids were just rescued from 40 days in a forest if I remember correctly. People are pulled from collapsed buildings. As far away as I think it is from reality that these poor souls will come back up...I applaud anyone not giving up. If it's got legit failsafes then give them the chance they deserve and keep looking.

This is an experimental, uncertified craft. It seems odd to me that it was not tethered.

..jesse waters just had someone on his show (who works for / or used to work for the sub company - i missed that part of the story) ..but he said he is fearing the worst - he doesn’t want to be negative but the depth that the sub goes to is a level where a rescue is almost impossible & less traveled than space ..praying for a miracle

Any passenger who isn't mentally solid will be suffering immensely

There is no way the sub's Mothership would depart the scene until either the missing sub is located and retrieved o!r else nothing has been found during the sub's occupant's maximum time for survival is exceeded. You never give up hope until ...
