Four days ago, I watched this video. I followed the instructions, and it actually worked, I caught and successfully surfed the first wave I attempted - YouTube taught me how to surf!

yes, they never mention bending the back foot inward, and bringing the front foot to where your chest it, or actually should be just a little farther on a straight line through the chest point between feet so you dont fall back as easily. also, your doing most board direction control with your back leg. the chest is the center of bouyancy, like center of gravity in water. the farther up the front foot, the more weight shared between feet, which you ideally want most on the front foot.

Are the wetsuits needed? Or are they like guards on a board, just recomended? As if can i wear boardies and a shirt?

Nice video. You could always include to try to surf with somebody else, or tell others in the lineup that you are alone and to keep an eye on you.

Ditto on the rash guard or wet suit. Man I did an entire day of surfing bare chested. Had a burn worst than sunburn.

You shouldn't hold the side of the board as it creates unbalance. You should put your hands just below your chest and fairly near the centre of the board. Also your feet may not touch the back of the board if you have a larger board or they may go over it if you have a smaller one so that point is incorrect. Also the foot positioning will only work with an large soft board. Nice clear video though.

and another thing people dont always get, DO NOT JUMP UNLESS SPECIFICALLY TRANSFERRING BETWEEN WAVES! water doesnt like to compress, especially when it has momentum and alot of inertia relative to you. you want to maintain grip.
