I say that it’s a dam shame you pay close to over $30, 000 for a bike and you have to wrestle to put two helmets in the trunk .😳😤

for 50 years I have left the helmets on the bike, with the occasional minimal locking .Most of the time its on the seat with my jacket over it . If the trunk space spoiled the the ride for you than you are missing the most beautiful designed and engineered motorcycle on the planet.

I wear an XL Shoei Qwest helmet. The trunk will close and latch but with a little pressure will be exerted on the latch like in your case. To open it you simply press down just a bit on the lid to take that pressure off and it will unlatch perfectly.

There is another avenue to the helmet problem created by Honda on the new Goldwing. I installed a matching pair of Lidlox Helmet Locks on my new DCT and they work great and look like they come from the factory. Look at them and see what you think. They come in matching chrome and black which ever you like best. Thanks for all of your continuous work allowing us to see how to make our rides better.

Cruiseman, I admire your persistance, but someone at Honda needs to get fired, I actually heard a Honda GW salesman tell a Demo rider that wore his modular helmet to a test ride that most GW riders wear 3/4 helmets and 3/4 helmets would fit without a problem, this is totally unacceptable, no one should have to wear smaller helmets, or draw up different configurations to place the helmets in the trunk, I got a little upset just watching this because I was saying to myself, where can you put your gloves in this Flagship Tourer, much respect to you Cruiseman for all the good work and videos you produce. Keep up the good work, but as for me, I cannot recommend this bike under the current conditions, something has to change.

Honda has failed to understand the American consumers in my opinion. Look at the average size of the US touring riders and what they carry when riding across our beautiful country. The Goldwing might be a marvel of technology, but is a marketing failure in my opinion. It's a $ 30 000 dollars motorcycle folks, come on...Thanks for the video Cruiseman, great video as usual.

Lack of storage is a major disappointment. One solution I'm considering is BMW's K1600GTL. Two Shoei Neotec IIs fit in its top trunk without finagling, with room to spare.

Let's face it, Honda screwed up on this new Goldwing. Again a case for not buying a bike in the first year of production.

Been riding hondas since 1965 love there bikes. Just bought 1998 gl1500 with 12200 miles on it last summer, love it and believe two helmets of any size will fit! Also has two helmet hooks under trunk that lock, seems honda may have missed the mark on new goldwings! That said you can have everything, maybe next year.

So if the small helmet is too tall obviously it has to be on its side. It looks like the way you succeeded was by putting the back of the big helmet into the front of the small helmet, so that some space is being double used.

I suspect Honda tested it with helmets belonging to 5’6” 105 pound Japanese people. It seems like the aftermarket could come up with a different trunk lid that was an inch or two taller.

I wear a XXL and my X wore a medium so no way will that work. But I don't have a 2018 either.
Honda has done some goofy stuff with this new GW. What takes the cake is the nav system...

Just my .2 worth. This is a premium Touring motorcycle and an iconic branded one at that. Newly redesigned and fresh to market. Nice! But how does a market leader like Honda motorcycling, an organization with talented smart design engineers not think to conduct some form of Focus group filled with a few or more Touring specific motorcycling enthusiasts to poke, probe and express any thoughts or concerns possibly creating an “aha moment”, which if it did, could have headed off issues before coming out to market. It’s absolutely imperative to be able to fit 2 full-face helmets with communications modules in a premium Touring motorcycle’s top case without taking on the challenges of some sort of Rubic’s Cube puzzle to make these helmets fit. Just not understanding a very basic approach to learning from a cross section of your customer/user base what you might have overlooked before product launch. Honda a few other things and maybe more the longer the bike is in the field. Sufficient to grab passenger hand, designated highway peg location placement, sufficient helmet storage, GPS ease of use and not offering a premium model with most if not all of the bells and whistles from your catalogue factory installed.

Good point, Honda needs to simply redo the top lid and then make them available as free retrofit. Wishful thinking!

I just set my helmet on the seat and keep my clothes in the trunk. Wearing somebody else’s helmet would be like wearing their underwear. So far no worries. Oh it’s an Aria signet x. With temps in the nineties to low triple digits it gets pretty funky in there.

Can you fit either helmet in the side cases? I think it is complete incompetence on Honda’s part to design a touring bike with such brain dead storage design.

All I can say is I'll not purchase the current Gold Wing since Honda forgot that this is suppose to be a touring bike and not a sports bike. Looks like my 2012 will have to last a little longer or now I'm looking at the Yamaha Touring Bike. Lots of Luggage and features. Honda, you messed up.

I am assuming you don't also have a trunk carpet which would reduce the space too.
