*CORRECTION: It was the author of SCP-173 (Moto42) that has asked for the image to not be replaced, not Izumi Kato.*

Peanut will always be remembered... his crunching of necks will never be forgotten...

Peanut will always be remembered. It's such a genius design because one of the things that separate it from modern interpretations is it's hands. Your design and SCP Unity's design while good and has captured the creepyness, their arms makes sense, Peanut's arms are two little stubby things which adds to the mistery, making people wonder "How the fuck does that thing snap necks with that shit?"

no matter what peanut looks like, he's always the icon of SCP that we all know and love.

It'd be kinda cool if they hired the artist to make a new interpretation of SCP-173 with the specific intention of it being used for SCP-173. That way, Peanut gets to stay in some form, and the artist gets paid and recognized even more for his work!

Izumi is really based, knowing the impact that his artwork has made on the community and letting the wiki use his piece, even discouraging them from removing it. And all he asks in return is to not sell it and for people to respect his boundaries and not send floods of traffic his way regarding SCP.

As an SCP fan of nearly 10 years, I love your respect for the artist who made SCP a possibility by making 173, even if that is not What he intended when he made the sculpture. You truly are a good person for making sure that people knew that the OC wasn't to blame for the change, and that it was the wiki itself. I couldn't imagine how much hate the OC would have gotten if this just happened out of the blue. Keep up the good work. all the best.

Sounds like the original artist had been nothing but amicable in this whole situation. Good for him.

Well, no matter what the Wiki has on it or whatever ideas come from the fans (I can’t wait !) we ALL know what SCP-173 looks like. Thank you Izumi-san, I hope you know how many people Untitled 2004 has inspired to creat art of their own to share freely with each other as you have with us.

Always going to be thankful to the original artist for letting the image be used even if it took away from their original intent. I think that really shows the true heart of the SCP community, and for steps to be taken to allow that original intent to shine again is just awesome. I hope people in the community check out more of the artist's work and support such wonderful creativity.
Gonna miss peanut, but I'm looking forward to what's to come for 173.

I wish there was a more symbolic way of taking down 173’s original visual to introduce a new original image for it: like, an addon to the wiki that states that 173 has somehow “broken out” of its “shell” and now has a “new form”, hence the old image is now defunct and outdated. That way, new SCP fans can read 173’s wiki and immediately familiarize with its new form while old SCP fans won’t feel like the new form seemed “out of nowhere” because the new form is somehow part of its lore.

i never thought that the SCP wiki would grow this calamitously. when it was first starting out i always thought people would lose interest and was happy to see how it progressed. it's sad that people abuse the community so much, especially to the point of damaging the Wiki as a whole. SCP-173, the sculpture, peanut, will be missed. *crack*

I'm honestly just upset that the 682 image isn't the beluga skeleton anymore. Taking random images off the internet and turning them into anomalies was the whole charm of SCP for me. I get removing peanut, as sad as it is, but c'mon, the beluga skeleton wasn't hurting anybody

Izumi's reaction to everything was so wholesome. He didn't get mad or make drama, and was so compliant in exchange of SCP having to respect very fair rules.

I think we all knew this day would come. I do respect Izumi Kato for being so understanding and allowing the wiki to use his art for so long.

Rest in peace, our sweet peanut child.

Even though peanut will be removed from the wiki, I'm fairly certain that I'm speaking for everyone when I say that he'll still remain the "mascot" of the SCP foundation/wiki and will always unnoficially be the original scp-173

It would be cool if lore-wise, it was Izumi himself who captured and sealed the anomaly in the statue, but now the seal is coming undone, and the anomaly is gaining a new appearance.

The best alternative actually would have be simply asking Mr. Izumi, since his style and work is so deep ingrained into everything that is 173, if he'd be willing to contribute an "official" illustration to act as Peanut's portrait. It'd be the best of both worlds keeping the same feel as the original as it's made by the same artist, while also being CC compliant, not to mention send a massive amount of goodwill Mr. Izumi's way and to his other works.

While it's a little sad to see such an important image go, the events surrounding it make me really proud of what the scp wiki and community has grown to be.
