I fostered 2 young puppies this summer & used everything I learned from McCann's channel. In 3 short weeks I had them walking on leash, coming when called, pooping on command, sitting, & taking treats gently! Thank you for all the expertise you share! Hands down my favorite trainers! Now I have adopted a different rescue pup who was fearful of all humans. Using the skills & relationship building of these trainers, she now comes to anyone she meets for pets & love, walks on a leash, comes when called, & is potty trained, as well as crate trained; where before she was terrified. All in 4 weeks! I only wish I lived in Canada to go to in person classes!

Please keep showing us more of Texas 2-10 and other adolesence dogs. The other chat ages ago with Meg and Highlight was also great. I've really loved seeing the puppy training you guys do, but there's a real big gap in dog training for the 12-24 month teenage phase, hormones, etc

This is awesome. I understand the toy reward so much more clear. I’m so excited this is great!

This is so helpful! I just asked the puppy essentials trainers yesterday how to prevent my puppy from becoming "toy wise". This video answered my questions perfectly! 🥰

With my old border collie, I found that treats were ok in the house/garden with low level distractions, but I got the rock-solid, high level behaviours through the use of toys (balls and frisbees were his favourites). Great advice as always, Carol.

Thanks for sharing your video. Do you have a suggestion for steps of training border collier or things to teach him at what stage? Great thanks!

I'm working on refining my dog's skills and my own toy rewarding right now. Perfect timing to release this vid for me and Loki. I recently found a high value tug reward toy for outdoor distraction training, and he is crazy for it at home and in the yard. But as soon as I take him away from home to train (in areas he is moderately familiar, but still finds plenty of novelty) he couldn't care less about that, or any, toy. Having a hard time building any drive in these locations with distractions. Doesn't matter if we have charged the toy. He just doesn't care about anything except his surroundings. Any suggestions?

And thanks for the excellent tips!

What's a good amount of time-frame for the toy reward before you hide it again?

Ok I have a question, that might be applicable to other viewers. We got our dog at six months old, and that was roughly a year ago. As I have worked with training her I have noticed that if food is offered she forgets all of the training, it’s like when you’re asked a question on that big exam that you’ve been studying for and all the thoughts go out of your head. My fiancé is now at a point with his job that he can start training with her as well. He tried using food and quickly realized the same situation. She does however seem to be motivated by extreme praise, and then ai give her food at the end of the training session as a “good job you got most of the questions right”. Is there something that we can be doing that makes this a more broad training session? We want her to obviously listen to both of us, and we’ve noticed that distraction is a huge problem, if I’m in the room when he’s trying to do training she couldn’t care less what he’s telling her, she’s only paying attention to me. I guess our question is how do we offset that? How do we make her more of a family dog versus just a me dog? And is there something better we can be doing as a reward than just praise?

My dog loves her rope she is 6 months old, once I give her her rope she won't listen to me she will just run around for ages. Only time I get a chance to get the rope is if she drops it and I'm quick to get it. Any ideas on what I can do please?
