Kyiv tour
Kyiv is the capital of Ukraine. The city is big and very nice. It’s got a history of more than 1500 years old. Here you can see ancient monuments and modern buildings side by side.
The main street of the capital is Khreshchatyk Street. It is not long, but very impressive. Khreshchatyk looks especially beautiful in spring, when chestnut trees are in blossom. The building of this street began at the end of the 18th century.
There is Independence Square or Maidan Nezalezhnosti at the northern end of Khreshchatyk Street. It is the central square in Kyiv. Parades, concerts and festivals take place on the square. It contains six fountains, Independence Column and an artificial waterfall.
The historical heart of the city is Podil. It’s one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Kyiv and the birthplace of the city`s trade, commerce and industry. Here people can visit St. Andrew`s Church. It’s the major church in the capital. It was designed in the 18th century and is situated on the top of a hill.
Andriyivskyi Uzviz (Descent) is very popular with tourists. It is the best place to buy Ukrainian souvenirs and art and crafts.
St. Sophia`s Cathedral is an outstanding architectural monument. Itwas founded in the 11th century. It is famous for its beautiful mosaics and frescoes. Aside from its main building the cathedral includes an ensemble of structures such as a bell tower and the House of Metropolitan.
The Golden Gate is another monument of the 11th century. It was built during the time of Yaroslav the Wise. It served as the main entrance to the city.
Mariinskyi Palace is one of the most beautiful palaces in Ukraine. It is the place, where the President of Ukraine has got the official receptions of the highest state level. It is rich of its antique furniture and paintings.
The Kyiv-Pecherska Lavra is on the green hills above the Dnipro. It is both a monastery and a tourist attraction. Monks live, study, work and pray here. Many talented and famous people lived in the Kyiv-Pecherska Lavra.
The house with Chimeras is one of the most popular buildings in Kyiv. The building is decorated with exotic animals and creatures such as elephants, rhinoceros and dolphins. The house is situated in Bankova Street.
The Motherland Monument is a monumental statue in Kyiv. The sculpture is a part of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War.
Green parks make Kyiv fresh and splendid. The city is famous for its greenery. Welcome to Kyiv!

Да, Киев как и Питер не стремится к небоскребам. Красота чаще не в них, а в историческом наследии. Пока у нас один реальный - Газпромсити, под 700 метров, но, гад, самый большой в Европе. Хотя мы, говорят, и не Европа, да и Европа сегодня жестко разъеденилась, будем надеется, временно. Наступают новые времена. Мир уже не будет прежним.
