Dismanteling and cleaning the toolbox we are going to restore. The plan is on keeping all of the tags including the front sticker. Unfortunately after cleaning the finish was found to be in poor shape. That coupled with the fact that leather had been glued using some kind of contact cement led me to make an executive decision and strip the finish and start from scratch.

4:12 great advice on the spring steel and evaporust I've had some divider springs break while sitting in evaporust. Granted I may have left em in there longer than suggested but right about that

Most stickers come off really easily if you heat them up slightly with a hair dryer. With no damage to the sticker.

Beautiful work! I totally agree with stripping and refinishing. I have a 1930's Craftsman box that needs new veneer and finish.

I would use spray glue when re-applying the sticker. it will sit more naturally than the double stick tape.
