Rather than blender vs Houdini I would like to see a blender + Houdini video

I think it's closer to comparing a dog to a car:
There's no reason you can't have both.
In fact, it might be BETTER to have both.

I never understand this comparison of 2 absolutely different programs. It's like what is better Unreal or Blender? Was Blender ever advertised as cool simulation/vfx software? It was always traditional modelling/animation/render tool.

Yes a blender user may lose to one of those BUT a blender user can do all of these, character creation, animation, simulation, vfx, and so on. Without any cost.
So when combined far superior,

Thanks for the video,
I am a big fan of your channel ✌🏻.

blender for modeling and maybe texturing, houdini for vfx and animation/simulations

Just use what you are more comfortable with

Those are my favorites softwares, I’m going to be motion designer and vfx artist

This didn't age well:D Those geometry node implementations are actually much better than anyone has expected

I had some experience using Blender; the problem with it is that there aren't enough non-destructive options when it comes to 3D modelling. Houdini has nodes that you can connect to others within a network that helps modify a geometric object; and 3ds Max does something similar but instead of nodes in a network it uses modifiers in a stack and you can re-order the stack if you wish.

In a nutshell, 3ds Max and Houdini have their own way of giving me more flexibility in tweaking objects whereas in Blender, not so much.

Houdini has HDA's. This along make it useful for game developers well worth the price for indie version. Blender is lovely for fast rigging and animating game assets for me atm. I forget to mention the power of Vex in Houdini

I disagree regarding Character animation in Houdini. From my brief experience I found it easier to handle keying and posing than I expected. It's worth following the excellent tutorials from SideFx and making up your own mind as to whether it's worth taking the time to master.

It would be great if you instead made a video on which uses one should prefer which software

For everyone that keeps saying houdini is thousands of dollars, they have a free NC version and indie is only $250 a year, which if you are making money you essentially pay off in one job. But this video does a good example of explaining the differences. I am a houdini artist and I just downloaded blender to try some fx features in blender and it doesn't even compare to houdini. But I found many things way easier like modeling/uv/rigging. Blender seems to be getting more of this functionality, but part of houdini's power (aside from nodes) is being able to store attributes on vertices/faces and use that data for modeling, simulation, etc.

he really took offence on comparing Houdini with blender 🤣😂

Thanks god in every technical sphere there is a hindu explaining in simple language

Blender has problem with polygon counts. If they manage to solve that only then they can match other software. Even old softimage can match blender in polygon counts.

My personal top Ranking in vfx Software: 1.Houdini, 2.Maya+ phoenix fd, 3. 3ds max + real flow . I worked 5 Years in Maya, 2 in 3ds max and now 3 in Houdini. I never wanna switch again for a reason

Can i use Blender and Houdini together? or should i just focus on one.

I want to make very realistic models and simulations.

it's not really fair to compare vanilla Blender to Houdini.... because Houdini like most commercial software, comes with a host of quality choice addons for you

for example, no-one is saying Ant landscapes or Sapling trees will work in a hollywood movie.

an example i've found, needing terrain for my game, i've been using WorldBuilder, it looks like it does better rivers than i've seen so far in Houdini as they're using an erosion model

i think most of these opinions are "grass is always greener" illusions, combined with the fact choosing a well rounded commercial app that gives you easy click options is not a bad idea, you still have to learn stuff to get results in both cases ... i haven't seen a killer example yet of what exactly apparently i can't do because i like Blender

I learn and work with Maya, houdini, 3ds maya that was hard sometime not work error or so, I gave up.. I got blender was ok. enjoy with blender for free.
