The For the People Act is a federal election law and government ethics bill which cleared the House of Representatives on March 3. But its fate now lies with the 50-50 divided Senate. With several Republicans opposing it, the bill has no chance of attracting the 60 Senate votes it would need to overcome a filibuster. This led to some Democrats, like Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), to advocate for abolishing the filibuster in order to pass the bill.
