Drawing Shear and Moment Diagrams for Beam

preview_player
Показать описание
This is an example problem that will show you how to graphically draw a shear and moment diagram for a beam. In general the process goes like this:
1) Calculate support reactions
2) Draw vertical lines at discontinuities
3) Draw graphically by applying relationships for loading, shear, and moment
dV/dx = w (slope of the shear diagram is the value of distributed load)
dM/dx = V (slope of the moment diagram is the value of the shear)
change in shear = area under the distributed load
change in moment = area under the shear diagram

@Structurefree, can u please show me the derivation of how you know whether concentrated moment will cause the graph to jump up or down in the moment diagram?

The addition of the moment in the equilibrium equation, , , does it matter if it is pointed counterclockwise

Hey man, great video. How would I know when to use the other parabolic moment curve. because to me it still looks like it has a positive slope. Unless there's something I'm still not getting

How do you calculate the maximum shear force and maximum bending moment?

it would be great if these were not interrupted by ads every minute

the shape of momen diagram should be the same of the shape of deformation of beam. It will be easier to imagine
