How to make easy microwave potato bags - a Tulip Square quilting sewing tutorial:
We have had a number of requests for this simple sewing tutorial. These potato bags are so easy to make. No pattern required, just measure, cut, sew, and you’re done!

IMPORTANT!! One thing to be sure of, when you’re making anything for use in the microwave - BE SURE ALL FABRIC, BATTING AND THREAD IS 100% COTTON. Other threads like polyester, rayon etc, can spark and start on fire in your microwave.

Your design looks a lot easier than the one I had to use years ago (to make microwave potato bags for a fund raiser). It was not a very good fund raiser. Most adults did not go for the idea then.

I microwave my potatoes in a bowl filled about half way up with water on the food I'm cooking. The water helps cook the potatoes/food and keeps it from getting hard and dry.

Hi thanks for the tutorial. I has a question. I bought my potato bag from a store several years ago. I use it several times a week but it needs replacing. It is made of synthetic fabric & synthetic batting. I have never had any issues with sparks or fires. I live in South Africa and not hear a big town. I would like to make one but cotton batting is not easy to find. Perhaps a viewer can give an opinion here. When I cook any thing in the bag eg. Corn, potato or sweet potato it will always be damp from washing or rinsing.
