That's best method we used this maintenance of gas pipelines. For long pipe connection we do another thing close ends securely then increase air pressure from 1 end, on 1st end connect bicycle air pump. With in series of nrv and pressure gauge. If it's leaking gauge will show pressure getting down after few minutes. in meantime you can spray soap water on all joints 😊

Ol Big Blue is a must have on any hvac and plumbing truck. That being said, I don't hate the lighter test, the combustion rate on a leak is low enough that you can just shut off the gas when you see a flare. I highly doubt those people would do any test at all lest it be so conveniently on them, and I like any test over none. That being said i dont think anyone should be doing a lighter test. PLEASE DO YOUR JOBS RIGHT!!! RECOGNIZE JUST HOW MANY REPERCUSSIONS CAN OCCUR ANYTIME YOU ARE LAZY OR COMPLACENT

I have been using a loghter for over 30 years to check for leaks and i have only burned down 1 house lol it is fun scaring people that way but yea i use soap and water i have seen a botle with a brush u can buy that does the same thing i have never wanted to wast money on the premixed stuff in a can i do it the same way you do

This is also how you find a leak in a refrigeration system when you can't pinpoint the leak with the leak detector or if you want to show to the customer visually where is the leak!

I like the lighter trick. Gotta be smart about it. Like have someone else turn the gas on and do it immediately before it has time to fill the workplace and make a big boom. When it goes well the greenhorn will be more respectful cause he doesn't want to mess with the crazy guy.

I’ve always heard to never use detergent or soap to find gas leaks because it’s accelerates corrosion within the steel. Micro gas leak detection liquid is what I use.
