Totally agree. I think a lot of it came from the 90s 'technical' period of skateboarding. Everyone was obsessed with switch tricks and the symmetrical aspect, which transferred into snowboarding (twin shapes/flex etc)
I began surfing and skating in the mid 70s, snowboarding early 80s, and although the stance maybe somewhat 'sideways' the more open forward facing riding style was the norm.

I ride many stances but posi posi remains my favourite. +30 +12 is a common stance for me and it's just awesome for laying down deep carves and hitting the powder. It also takes a tonne of stress off my 52 yr old knees - riding duck just makes my back knee hurt after a few hours.

I use 33/24 for soft boot carving and I found it much easier to angulate with fwd stance.

In eu kids learn to snowboard both ways without figuring out their leading foot. This method leads to very good switch riding results. It is therefore assumed, probably incorrectly, that what works for kids will work for beginner adults.
