Time is a song by the English progressive rock band Pink Floyd. It is included as the fourth track on their eighth album The Dark Side of the Moon (1973) and was released as a single in the United States. Bassist Roger Waters wrote the lyrics. Keyboardist Richard Wright shares lead vocals (his last until "Wearing the Inside Out" on The Division Bell) alongside guitarist David Gilmour.

Pink Floyd are an English rock band formed in London in 1965. Gaining an early following as one of the first British psychedelic groups, they were distinguished by their extended compositions, sonic experimentation, philosophical lyrics and elaborate live shows. They became a leading band of the progressive rock genre, cited by some as the greatest progressive rock band of all time.

[Part I: Time]

*ticking clocks*
*clocks ringing*

[Instrumental Intro]

[Verse 1: David Gilmour]
Ticking away
The moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours
In an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground
In your hometown
Waiting for someone
Or something to show you the way

[Chorus: Richard Wright]
Tired of lying in the sunshine
Staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long
And there is time to kill today
And then one day you find
Ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run
You missed the starting gun

[Guitar Solo]

[Verse 2: David Gilmour]
And you run, and you run
To catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
And racing around
To come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way
But you're older
Shorter of breath
And one day closer to death

[Chorus: Richard Wright]
Every year is getting shorter
Never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught
Or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation
Is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over
Thought I'd something more to say

[Part II: Breathe (In the Air) (Reprise)]

[Outro: David Gilmour]
Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
When I come home cold and tired
It's good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells

It's not possible to write a song that relates to more people than this song. Literally everyone whose ever lived can relate to this song!

No one gets out of this life alive. I dedicate this song to all people who have wasted their youth and then realized it's too late. People like myself.

I love this song since I was 16. Now I am 50 and this song hits me in the head more than ever before, reminding me how fast the decades passed and how valuable is our time in this life!

"You are young and life is long
There is time to kill today
And then one day you find
Ten years have got behind you"
There can be no song more fitting than this for a person in his late 20s (me) to set as his alarm.
To remind him that he has achieved so little in his youth.

Funny you listen to these songs stoned as a teenager, not thinking much of the lyrics then listen again when you older to reminisce and lyrics slam into you like a brick

I bought this album when it first came out in 1973 as a 15-year-old. I'm 65 now and it still has the power to move me.

"life is what happens when you're busy making plans" - John Lennon. No one has time for anything these days is an excuse. Time hasn't changed, just how we prioritize it has.

The lyrics are so true. Didn't understand them when I was a kid, but now it almost makes you cry. All you little 15 and 20 (even 30) year old people, you better enjoy what you have. Cause Time is evil. It steals everything from everyone, and not even the most powerful people in the world can get away from it.

Sometimes months or years pass by without hearing this song, but when I do... it's still so fucking good.

This used to be my alarm clock. Even my mom liked it. She was 15 in England, trapped by the war during the blitz. "Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way" I saw them at Roosevelt Stadium in 1973 in Jersey. Love this band.
