So the first Blender 3.0 Alpha was just released, but really, it sounds like a huge deal, but really it's just the next version. The 2.93 Beta was also just released and trust me, it's a heck of a lot more exciting, at least for now.

Honestly Blender 2.8 was SUCH a big update, it deserved to be called 3.0.
Blender 2.8 should have been called Blender 3.0

I always wanted Blender numbering to be easy and now it's happening and it's the biggest update for me 😂

If anyone is interested, the versioning where the unit is a huge update, tenth a major one, hundredth less so etc, is called semantic versioning.

2.8 should have been named 3.0. If anything, THAT was a major update.

I prefer the old numbering system. There's a good reason for it. In a version like 2.93, the 3 represents a minor update, the 9 represents a larger update, and the 2 represents a major update. TO go from 2.93 to 3.0 without anything major makes no sense at all. To have a shorter version number also makes no sense at all. Either you have fewer updates, or you have version numbers that become really meaningless.

3.0 should have always meant Vulkan. it's been long overdue

The asset manager could be a really big deal . Right now the current referencing system is kind of clunky and I've experienced a lot of crashes for silly reasons. However, having the ability to copy and instantiate assets without jumping though hoops sounds like a dream come true to me. I'm hoping that there will be a universal method of importing and saving assets to a primary reference library load out that can all be put in the same place.

I'm excited, can't wait for Asset Browser :)

Everything needs an Asset browser. Working with assets in Unreal is completely ridiculous.

I have started 3D modelling for the first time with blender in 2019 and it is the most easy to Learn 3D modeling software and best of all time ...

Blender: Where going from 2.49 to 2.5 is the biggest update in history, but going from 2.9x to 3.0 is nothing major.

I hope they streamline the texture baking process since it's a little convoluted at the moment.

high poly sculpting needs to be optimized if not then this update really doesn't matter for me... they should start thinking about it.
Zbrush or even Maya can deal with it perfectly but blender... if you want to go sculpting with more details you need to actually go still for proprietary software.
I really hope they will focus on this so i can finally never touch anything paid.

Still happy with my b2.79 and upbge. No Game Engine, no download, as always. :P

well when you consider how different 2.83 is from 2.79 as far as the ui it seems to me the last few versions are like the alpha for what is their new version with a new look that we'll all refer to as 3. Blender rules, they've accomplished a LOT leading up to this.

I have tried 2.93 alpha, and oh boy it crashed many times, but the new persistent data option is a BIG thing for animators...

Small comment regarding Blender beta version usage. It's funny, but sculpting in latest 2.xx beta works significantly better, faster and is more stable( no crashes at all) comparing to official latest 2.92. Especially visible if you are cutting out chunks of models in sculpting mode.
P.S. It doesn't mean it's bugs free and stable in another areas. You can find 2.93.0 beta under experimental download. It was released yesterday.

Dude all Blender releases are stable or receive fixes, LTS stand for Long Term SUPPORT

I'm little bit sad with this new numbering system.
I have always liked how Blender development team can add some massive upgrade - a new render engine which is a really revolutionary or new totally re-written user interface and still modestly increase a version number by 0.01
