eBay's Global Shipping Program Explained - Free International Shipping!

eBay's Global Shipping Program (GSP) allows sellers to ship items internationally for free and makes it super easy to do so! All you need to do is opt into the program. Then when a buyer purchases from you, you ship the item to eBay and eBay forwards the item to the buyer.

GSP is an absolute disaster which forces you to pay duties on both inexpensive and expensive items where you'd never be charged in the end anyways. eBay projects it as something beneficial when it's just another scheme to make them more money. It benefits no one but eBay and Pitney Bowes. I can't believe this guy is trying to make it out to be something good. I have had nothing but problems with the program and won't deal with any seller that uses it. Once your parcel is received PB will actually remove your item from your good packaging and place it in their own less protective packaging to save money on shipping. I've since began shipping items to a northern US border town and picking them up myself.

I will not buy from anybody that uses GSP once bitten twice shy if American sellers want to keep losing sales it is their problem

The eBay Global Shipping Program primarily benefits eBay and their shipping contractor Pitney Bowes, not eBay users. It is a highly profitable program for eBay.. but has serious flaws and costly, frustrating limitations for both buyers and sellers.
I categorically refuse to purchase items from international sellers who use eBay's global shipping program, for many reasons.

The main reason is that eBay's Global Shipping Program makes it either impossible or very difficult & confusing for sellers to combine international shipping on more than one item won / purchased at the same time by a single buyer. EACH ITEM costs me, the buyer, the same exorbitant shipping charge.. despite all the items having been purchased from a single seller and arriving to the same address in the same shipping box. NO combined shipping charges is in itself a total deal breaker / non-starter for the eBay Global Shipping Program.

In theory I could pay $110 shipping with eBay's Global Shipping Program for a mere 4 or 5 vinyl LPs shipped from the UK to myself in the USA from a single eBay seller shipping all the LPs to my address.. this is insanity. The same U.K. seller shipping these same 4-5 LPs to me in the USA using superior shipping methods like DHL or UK Royal Mail Tracked and Insured would charge less than HALF the shipping fees charged by the Global Shipping Program.

I actually got a negative feedback in just such a situation-- the eBay Global Shipping Program had just been introduced (so I had not yet learned of its serious drawbacks for buyers)and I won 5 LPs from a UK seller for a total closing bid cost of approx. $135 for the LPs. The shipping was over $100 (!!!) raising my cost from $135 to nearly $240 with eBay GSP shipping!
I emailed back and forth with the seller many, many times to try to explain my reluctance to pay such a huge cost for shipping and just he kept repeating that "eBay sets the shipping cost and it is the same cost for each item-- no combined shipping." I canceled the sale and got a negative feedback. I even contacted eBay before cancelling after it became clear the seller was not going to help in any way (or perhaps was unable to) and was told by eBay that for me, as a buyer, "this was the sellers issue and responsibility and I could not 'negotiate' at this point'" Needless to say I was more than put off by this experience.

I have contacted many sellers who use eBay's Global Shipping Program over the years and have been told the exact same thing; There IS NO combined shipping to reduce my costs as the buyer.
My solution to this is simple-- I DO NOT BID on any seller's items who use the eBay GSP method of international shipping.

Also, eBay Global Shipping Program shipments invariably costs more than comparably secure / safe tracked and insured shipping via UK, Japanese, German etc etc shipping, not to mention excellent carriers like DHL... and it takes typically 4-5 days longer for this very expensive eBay GSP shipping program to deliver the item.

A quick google search reveals pages upon pages of results from buyers who feel the same way about eBay's GSP program. Surely this is not INCREASING international sales. I realize my "evidence" is anecdotal (pages upon pages of google search results) but the members of LP and audio forums I participate in online are also in near universal agreement on this; surely this can't all be easily dismissed. Buyers hate eBay's Global Shipping Program and avoid it except when buying a "must have" item for their collections.

I collect 1960s UK, German & Japanese vinyl pressings of Rolling Stones LPs and thus keep a perpetual, focused watch on the Rolling Stones LPs that are listed and sold. Again, this is only anecdotal and likely biased by my hatred of eBay Global Shipping Program.. But my tracking of closing bid eBay sales prices for identical LPs in identical condition shows significantly lower closing bid / purchase prices for sellers using the eBay GSP program.
Buyers know they will have to pay (for example) $24.55 for EACH LP shipped from a single buyer.. as opposed to paying only $3 to $5 for each additional LP after paying the "primary" shipping charge first item purchased & shipped-- this non-sensical profit grab by eBay (no combined shipping) is not only costly but irritating to serious buyers who wish to purchase many LPs from a single seller.. so they simply do not bid or bid much lower amounts to compensate for the exorbitant Global Shipping Program's "no combined shipping" charges.

I don't think the eBay GSP benefits anyone other than eBay and Pitney Bowes.

I was exposed to the GSP recently for the first time (as a buyer) and have to say that it was a nightmare for both myself and the seller. I will never buy another product that uses this delivery method ever again. My item went to the Global Shipping Center in Kentucky (aka the Black Hole) and has never been seen since. Do a search for "eBay Global Shipping Program" and you'll see lots of testimonies from people who've had their items trashed by the reckless individuals who work at that center. If an item does somehow mange to get through the black hole unscathed, the delivery will likely have cost more and taken longer than if the seller had shipped it directly. The seller runs the risk of getting negative feedback for something they can't control. The buyer pays more for a substandard service. The GSP is all bad.

Here's a little light bulb going off I finally understood the importance of Tracer Bot. 1. I had an item that was bought, shipped & delivered & I never loaded the tracking number. today for the life of me I couldn't for the life of me remember how to put the tracking number on DSM, it was a 30 min. head scratcher!!!

Hey Paul you recently mentioned a alternative shipping company that works with eBay. Can you remind me of the company I have been trying to review your recent videos.

As a buyer, not an Ebay seller, I can tell you that Ebay's Global Shipping program has reduced my purchases on Ebay to nearly zero. The Global Shipping makes buying on Ebay prohibitively expensive, adding another 50% to the cost of nearly every purchase. I've gone from checking Ebay first for all my purchases to using it once or twice a year, and only if I can't find what I'm looking for elsewhere.

Paul, Great video, as far as added content to the Titans course would it be possible for you to create a video on how to use the cash back websites, I know its mentioned a bit but something more extensive and detailed would be nice, as far as do you log in to website than place order or place order and have in cart than open website, its confusing.

Sure, GSP allows you to sell internationally and it's super easy, but the major flaw in the whole thing is that International buyers will generally avoid sellers using Ebay GSP because of the massive added cost.

Also, lots of horror stories about GSP all over the web.

Once you opt in to eBay's global Shipping program do you need to update any settings in the DSM tool for it to automatically add the global Shipping option when you post things through DSM tool

Hi Paul. I have a starter store just recently started with a store. I just sold a lot of my own personal things before I actually started doing some thrifting in May. I love it. So, I’m fairly new to the selling for profit Ebay thing. I have Have read that when the new paying system goes into effect, that you will not be able to do GSP. You would have to do the international shipping process yourself. Do you know if this is true? I am planning on possibly starting international shipping when the new year starts. If things keep going well, I may upgrade my store, but I am just starting slow. thank you for any reply you give to my inquiry.

If you are sending Amazon and other retailer's boxes to a eBay warehouse won't you clearly be marked as a drop shipper? That is my only concern.
