The History of Inbreeding

Despite being a taboo or outright prohibited by cultures throughout history and around the world, inbreeding has had a major impact. From the royal families eager to maintain their pure divine bloodlines, to isolated families, the causes were not understood yet the consequences were known

Apologies, but there is a mistake in the video. We state that there are hundreds of if thousands of genes, we shouls have said thousands of genes. If you don't want to forgive me for the mistake, comment and I'll give you a gene as a form of repentance or you can throw a tomato

The fact that they tried to keep their bloodline pure af because they believed they themselves were 'divine' only to ended up with kids that malfunctioned in every way possible is nothing but pure mad irony.

I grew up in quite a backward rural area; my dad said there were several families there who practiced inbreeding. I remember quite a few kids who were intellectually challenged and had faces remarkably like the ones in this clip (bulbous eyes, protruding ears, prognathic jaws etc).

I appreciate that you humanized Charles II a bit by describing his hobbies and kindness, I feel like he is only ever mentioned as a monsterous example of royal depravity. He didnt choose to be inbred and disfigured, and he suffered grately for it. He deserves to have his positive qualities remembered

So nice to hear some kindness directed toward Charles the II of Spain. His lufe must have been so difficult. Thank you for humanizing him. ❤

The life of Charles ll of Spain was most accurately summarized by John Langdon-Davies: "We are dealing with a man who died of poisoning 200 years before he was born. If birth is a beginning, of no man was it more true to say that in the beginning was his end. 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗶𝗿𝘁𝗵, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵."

Poor King Charles II. I can't imagine the pain he struggled with for his entire life.

A lot of people think inbreeding is bad, but I think it's all relative.

Imagine being a starving peasant, overtaxed, and having to bow down to someone who looks like they're easily excited by a Baby Ruth candy bar....bc they're "pure" 😵‍💫

The dangers of incest is one of the many lessons of our ancient Greek so-called Theban Plays, specifically the play regarding King Oedipus. The point being that in our Greek culture, it has long been known that one must never indulge in incest. Only the illiterate have any excuse for being unaware of the dangers. There is absolutely no excuse for more recent presumably educated royals to be unaware that incest is anathema.

The blue fella with the white beard actually wasn't born with any genetic disorder. He accidentally poisoned himself with colloidal silver. Locally, we called him Papa Smurf. Really nice dude. RIP

When I was in high school my friend gave birth to her own sister. Her father had gotten both her and her mother pregnant at the same time. Their family tree had very few branches. The whole town was related. It’s perfectly legal where I live to marry your first cousin and it happened often. Nearly everyone was married to a cousin-sometimes a 4th or 5th cousin if they were lucky. There were lots of town suppers (aka family reunions.) I was adopted and nobody was interested in me because I wasn’t “one of the family.” I ended up marrying someone from a different country.

You know what is most tragic about Charles? He pushed for reforms that actually stabilized Spain's economy after decades of war. Could you imagine what he could have achieved had he not been so genetically effed up?

My cousin's first husband was child of two first cousins. He only had 2 brothers, all three of his sisters died of congenital diseases by 2-years-old. So when her daughter was born, her birth was celebrated not only as the first born grandchild, but the first girl in the family that has lived past 2. She's 27 now, with only a few, manageable health issues.

MANY MANY years ago I worked a special government census ( not the 10 year one) in a poor, remote Pennsylvania mountaintop area where the residents were all "related" and lived in homes very close to each other. It was by far the weirdest place I have ever been and there was strong visual evidence of inbreeding! I couldn't wait to
