I'm on a mac...pressing F4 or fn F4 does not do anything but create a mess

In my Laptop, cell reference does not lock with switching F4. Then what to do?

Figured it out...for a MAC, highlight cells. Go to toolbar and from the FORMAT toolbar, choose "Cells".  In the "Numbers" category, select "Currency".   BAM. All done.
